I wish their licensing calculator would let you import your current licenses. When I contacted Meraki support about a license question, they even hesitated with suggesting the calculator given the number of licenses in our org...lol ... View more

Yes, cutting licenses now would shorten the time until you have to renew, because when you added them it extended your time.   If you are going to swap licenses at renewal time from say a 120 to a 220 that won't change much for the dates. Might actually help you in that case.   I can't stress it enough though. If you renew for say just a year, but the delta is less licenses (or cheaper gear) you won't get 12 months, you'll get something less. The exception is if you added more expensive licenses. For example, if you dropped 5 Z3s but added 3 MS250, that would give you more time....bit that's because those licenses are more expensive.   My recommendation is renew for 3 years. Essentially it's the cost of 2 standalone years and the 3rd year is free.   ... View more

With coterm if you remove licenses then your date moves forward, not back. New licenses move your date back.   When renewal comes you can then renew less devices, but just remember that you'll get less time. For example, if you renewed for 3 years but dropped 10 devices, you might realize just 34 months instead of 36 months of coverage. The only way to avoid this would be to remove those licenses now. In the end it's the same overall time.   With per device everything has its own expiration, but it them becomes harder to manage. It's great if you are dealing with customers or charge backs, not so great for internal. ... View more

Where does your org's printers reside? Their own subnet? If so it's easily accomplished with firewall rules and such.   If your org is large and printers span multiple subnets, networks, etc, it may be more difficult to accomplish and manage. ... View more

@PhilipDAth- had a MX400 HA pair upgrade last night. I'll just explain the deployment:   Old firmware was a 14.x flavor   This is a DC head-end. Auto-vpn comes in from the north (internet), all internet and non-Meraki traffic heads south into the DC core. All Meraki destine traffic heads back north to other hubs/spokes.   Warm spare, however it is an east/west direct connection (yea yea, I know).   It's been almost 12 hours and the only VRRP transition was during the upgrade. There were some ethernet port carrier logs about 10 minutes later, but it was only a few logged on the primary and have since subsided.   Here is the logs for the location. I filtered on VRRP and port given all the other boring registry stuff that gets logged.     ... View more

Woah, wait, what? You have to go into the IdP portal to get logged in? O_o   Azure would be the use case.   Does that mean you could still log into the normal dashboard to non-SSO orgs using the same email address? I guess that is a positive....but wow..... ... View more

I have not had this exact issue, but I have seen some other weird things in this view.   A couple things to satisfy my curiosity:   1) Which browser? I always try to recreate between Firefox and Chrome, with and without adblock. 2) If you click on the actual port (graphical switch top left) does port 1 in the port details show PoE? Or is it all tracked on port 8? 3) I recall a few release notes for switches mentioning PoE weirdness, but this doesn't ring a bell. ... View more

Enabling SSO on dashboard - clarifying questions

by Aaron_Wilson in Dashboard & Administration
‎09-22-2021 04:33 AM
‎09-22-2021 04:33 AM
I am looking at enabling SSO, but I wanted to clear up a few things. Everything is well documented except for the actual user experience.   Question 1: Can someone clarify the user experience flow for SSO enabled orgs?   Current: User enters email into dashboard.meraki.com, clicks next User enters password, clicks next User prompted to select org, pick the org User taken to org   SSO enabled: User enters email into dashboard.meraki.com, clicks next Redirected to IdP process??? ??? ???     Question 2: How are multiple orgs handled if some have SSO and some don't?   The part I am confused about is with Meraki you do not claim a domain (org such as @Acme.com). If joe@acme.com is an admin on a few orgs, some of which have SSO and some don't, how does the dashboard process know to invoke SSO or not?   Other sites, like Cisco's Webex or Microsoft's O365, you actually claim "acme.com" as a company/org, so that anytime someone enters an @Acme.com email it will redirect to their respective IdP for authentication and authorization.   In the case of Meraki, you are setting SSO parameters at the org level. Wouldn't it be possible to have multiple email domains within a specific org, and if so, how does that bubble up?   Note, I am not a MSP but instead a customer. However, we might have a few orgs where we do not want SSO. We have also had access to other orgs without SSO, such as a company acquisition or joint venture type of scenario.   Thanks in advance!     ... View more
