Re: SFPs and 2.5G options

Thanks everyone for the info and suggestions - great community here. Not 100% this was an Adtran only feature, but I do believe this was something vendors were doing years ago when fiber links were young; perhaps as a cost saving option.  Best I can see the industry has settled on the existing tiers of 1G, 10G, 40G, and 100G and I can't find any current vendors selling this.  So, for me, it's a question to the client regarding upgrading their physical fiber to support 10G and moving forward.  Since I have the 2.5 SFPs I might try them in my new switch, just to see what happens, but I'm not expecting them to function. ... SFPs and 2.5G options

Noob question; client is wanting to replace old Adtran switches that currently have a SFP 2.5G link over OM1 fiber.  The runs are too long to support 10G and they don't want to replace the fiber.  How do I get a Meraki switch solution to support the same 2.5G link over fiber?  Specifically what SFP & config would allow that?  Thanks all. ... Prior to the v17 firmware change to Talos as the content category mechanism, we would publish a 'minimum required' list of categories we wanted all of our clients to block.  Now with Talos, is there any reason I wouldn't make their full threat categories list my new 'minimum required' recommendation?  Guess I'm asking if anyone has seen any of the Talos threat categories be a little too overzealous in blocking legitimate sites.    Thanks all ... I was hoping to find a Content category that would block remote access tools (gotomypc, logmein, etc) but didn't find one.  Anyone have a good way to setup a generic block to these types of connections?   Thanks ... View more

It's 2021 and this seems to be the same issue I'm fighting.  I have a ticket open to discuss with Meraki, now to clarify that the MX Content filter is indeed being applied to the MR WAP itself, preventing my group policy with relaxed content settings from having any affect on my wireless clients. If I follow your found fix, the only thing missing from the original config is the new SSID no longer prevents clients from seeing each other as it did when it was the Meraki NAT mode.  Is that correct? ... Just chiming in that a new MX100 in April 2021 is still running fans at full speed after boot, with 0 load and in a 68 degree room.  So, still louder than expected in an office environment (65db at 1ft away) and firmware 14.53 doesn't control the fan speed after boot. ... View more

Couple of things I'd check in SD-WAN\Config\Traffic Shaping:  1) don't set the WAN uplink limits to exactly match your service; leave some buffer.  2) same location Traffic Shaping Rules enable the default rules; they help greatly prioritizing traffic.  This same setting can be set if you're using Meraki WiFi as well. ... Thanks to both replies so far.   This is a great point.  Anyone know if Meraki is working on more robust hardware at the base MX levels on up, geared to handle higher bandwidth with all their security features working? ... View more

We're seeing GB WAN offerings ramping up in our rural area and I am struggling with the limitations of the small business applicable MX appliances and their inability to support that much bandwidth.  Does anyone know or heard if this is something Meraki is working on or has plans to address?  Or, is there some backdoor option vlan work around to use an LAN GB port for WAN traffic? ...
