Hi eLvs, Thanks for the question. I think there may be some confusion around network design. In most networks there is generally a switch that sits between the MX (firewall) and the end user (computer). In your example you asked about layer 7 rules changing due to a change on the MX and needing to reboot the client so the rules are applied, this is not needed even if the client was directly connected to the MX. If you are doing traffic shaping on the MX via SD-WAN policies, you can limit the per client bandwidth which means that the traffic that passes through the MX would be limited to what you predetermined the throughput to be. This policy isn't necessarily applied to a single device although it could be through the use of VLANs (keeping the example simple). Can you elaborate on what you are trying to accomplish and maybe I can provide a better explanation on how to accomplish the task. Below are some KBs that do explain SD Wan and Traffic Shaping. https://documentation.meraki.com/Architectures_and_Best_Practices/Cisco_Meraki_Best_Practice_Design/Best_Practice_Design_-_MX_Security_and_SD-WAN/General_MX_Best_Practices#SD-WAN_.26_Traffic_Shaping https://documentation.meraki.com/MX/Firewall_and_Traffic_Shaping/SD-WAN_and_Traffic_Shaping https://documentation.meraki.com/General_Administration/Cross-Platform_Content/Global_Bandwidth_Limit_Considerations

Hi, The Meraki Go products do not require a separate license like traditional meraki equipment. You do have the option of purchasing a license for Cisco Umbrella which will give you additional security protection. Hi eLvs, I don't have access to your network to see your configuration, but I did just receive a notice that a new build of firmware for the MX has been released, it's 16-16-8 and this *might* resolve your issue of packet loss. Without access to your dashboard config, I am unable to verify that this will resolve your issues, but it is certainly worth a try.

Hi eLvs, The suggestion of a reboot is a great one and that would be the first thing that I tried. Another alternative would be to try the beta build of MX 18.104. If this is not an option for you and the reboot did not work, please reach out to Meraki Support for additional troubleshooting. Support is available 365 days a year 24x7.

First off I don't know what " Should i adopt the secondary MX after completed setting up the network with the primary MX." means. When you do an HA pair here are some things to keep in mind: you only need one MX license (it will be shared by both MX's) as long as the second MX is only used for failover. You must have two unique IP addresses, one for each MX. Best practice dictates that they be from two different ISPs. You only need to configure the primary MX. I think that taking a look at this KB will answer all of your questions and walk you through how to set this up. MX Warm Spare - High-Availability Pair - Cisco Meraki

Having two ISP's for redundancy is the considered the best practice. The is because having a single ISP offers a single point of failure if your internet goes down with no backup. Alternatively, you can pay for a second IP from your service provider for the second MX but you will only have redundancy if there is a hardware failure on the MX and not an internet failure.

Hi Teo1, Thanks for the great question. The way that you would want to do this is have two unique IP addresses for each MX to connect to the cloud, then use a virtual IP address for non-management communication. Below is a KB that explains the setup and also the datasheet for your MX's. https://documentation.meraki.com/MX/Deployment_Guides/MX_Warm_Spare_-_High_Availability_Pair https://documentation.meraki.com/MX/MX_Overviews_and_Specifications/MX67_and_MX68_Datasheet Kathleen

Diego,123, The answers provided are the same that I would be telling you. You will need two identical MX's in order to setup for failover. The documentation for this can be found here: Re: How to connect two meraki MX for redun dancy - The Meraki Community One thing to keep in mind is that each Meraki device needs a license to work and you will need to create an account on the dashboard. To set this up go to dashboard.meraki.com and from there you can claim your equipment and add the licenses.

The only way you can tell if the equipment is claimed is if you try to register it into dashboard. If you plug the serial number in as has been suggested by others, you will quickly find out if the unit can be used. After you have claimed the unit all you need to do is unclaim it from your dashboard and then you can continue on with your plans. Take a look at this KB. Hi, do you know if the DNS server is being hosted internally or externally, meaning are you using Google for DNS which would be 8.8.8.8 and/or 8.8.4.4. If you are using an internally hosted DNS server try pointing to Google instead and see if this resolves the issue.

I used to work for Ixia/Keysight which is a test equipment manufacture and the link bouncing up and down is probably due to an unsupported transceiver which can be proprietary. The cause of this is that the layer 1 negotiations aren't able to take place correctly. I do see in this thread where a Cisco SFP model was listed as working.
