vMX Azure in China Performance & Caveats

Friends, does anyone have experience with vMX Azure deployments in China?  Looking for performance data, experience or any issues with its deployment and caveats I should be aware of?  I'm aware of dedicated Chinese Meraki Dashboard requirements so no issues there.  I'm looking to deploy vMX Medium licensing.   Appreciate the support. ... This, https://documentation.meraki.com/MX/Firewall_and_Traffic_Shaping/SD-WAN_and_Traffic_Shaping, provides details on traffic shaping, queuing, and marking on the MX. And this shows how the MX handles it within AutoVPN, https://documentation.meraki.com/MX/Firewall_and_Traffic_Shaping/QoS_over_a_Site-to-site_VPN. Is there anything specific you need to know? ... I almost never use one-armed mode.   I prefer to set up the DC like any other site.  I also prefer to have a cheap backup domestic Internet circuit plugged into WAN2.  This means if the DC has a catastrophic failure you can still get to the MX, and AutoVPN can still failover to the cheap circuit.  Having dual circuits also allows you to configure SD-WAN policies so that if the main DC circuit degrades you can take advantage of that cheap circuit, or you can offload bulk traffic you don't care so much about onto the cheap circuit.   VPN concentrator mode allows you to do BGP, and supports more complex active/active configurations. ... If you point Organization > Summary report at an appliance Network, right at the bottom right, you get summary uplink performance information for your selected timeframe (either Past month or Custom range might do what you need).   The last variable is the uptime, as a %age, reported for the two WAN uplinks (assuming your MX has both connected). ... Re: BGP Route Advertise Capacity

by Meraki Employee GreenMan in Security / SD-WAN
‎11-16-2020 10:20 AM
‎11-16-2020 10:20 AM
There's no simple answer to this;   consider that, if you enable BGP on a Hub MX, to advertise your branch subnets into the Data Centre, you will also be learning routes from the eBGP peer in the DC, which will then be advertised to all the Spoke MXs of that Hub.    As the Spoke MXs tend to be 'smaller' units than Hub MXs  (e.g. MX67, compared to MX250) - and because DCs often learn lots of routes, it is generally easier to overload the Spokes than the Hubs.   Look to limit the routes advertised from the upstream eBGP peer and summarise where possible. Look for <150 routes learned via eBGP, to protect the spokes    Unless you have an unusually large number of subnets, per branch, if you follow the scaling guidelines in the MX Sizing Guide - particularly for tunnels & VPN throughput in particular - I think you're unlikely to hit a scaling limitation on the Meraki Hub end.   Also look into the impact of the routes advertised to the upstream eBGP peer in the DC. ... Are you a partner or end user?  Partners have access to various info through a partner portal.  If you are an end user you should probably get in touch with your favorite Cisco reseller and they can help you.     I know for example, the partner portal has a searchable matrix of what products are order able in which regions. As far roadmap for the future that is somewhat confidential and shared regularly via partner webinars, etc.   Best. ... View more

Well, really simplifies it‘s another protocol running over AutoVPN. Which VDI solution are you referring to? What does the setup look like?   Simplified further: if you can pin down the protocol and port(s) talked, you can prioritize that kind of traffic. But again: what does your setup look like? There are a lot of factors that need to be taken into account that makes it hard to give definite answers here. Or perhaps I‘m missing some obvious stuff...   What‘s „WVD“ you’re referring to with authentication? ... View more

Scenario 1:  For 2000 endpoints (Z3C's), will I be hitting a limit for the MX250 (HA) as the gateway?  Don't believe will have room to grow.  Maybe better to go with the MX450?   Well, it depends. According to MX Sizing Guide, MX250 could accept maximum 3000 concurrent VPN tunnels. So 2000 endpoints are about 60% of capacity, so it could be ok. But you must consider how much VPN traffic will occur. If 1000 endpoints are generating more than 1Gbps, MX250 will max out even concurrent VPN tunnels are way below it's capacity. Therefore, if 2000 endpoints generates more that MX250's VPN throughput, you have to consider going to MX450.     Scenario 2:  For 6000 endpoints (Z3C's), should be ok with MX450 (HA) as the gateway?    Might be okay, but I recommend to use two MX450 HA sets. Although you use HA pair, only primary MX will do everything. That means all 6000 tunnels will be handled by single MX450, and it's about 20% more than MX450's maximum capacity. Therefore, use two MX450 and connect 3000 endpoints per one MX. (I'm using this method one of my organizations with one MX100 pair and one MX84 pair to split traffic that MX have to deal with.) ... So I'm an MSP, with many SMB customers.  All customers want is Internet breakout, LTE availability and WiFi at their employees' home.  If they need cloud connectivity, they will figure it out.  There's no DC involved since many of these companies don't even have a DC.  For now, the assumption is there is no VPN needed and no branch to branch or home to home connectivity necessary.  Would Meraki SD-WAN still be a good fit?  Can we otherwise do this?  ...
