Important Update for Organizations with Devices on CS Firmware

Hi Community,

Please read below a summary of important updates regarding cloud management, CS to IOS XE migration, and the IOS XE 17.15 release.

What is happening?

To ensure a smooth and reliable migration experience from CS to IOS XE, we are temporarily restricting upgrades for organizations currently on CS firmware versions. The temporary restriction is only for organizations migrating from CS firmware to IOS XE.

What does this mean?

  • For organizations with Catalyst devices currently running CS firmware, the ability to upgrade these devices to IOS XE 17.15 will be paused.
  • We are actively working on an improved stable release candidate, IOS XE 17.15.4.1, which will include several important bug fixes and improvements.

What is next?

Once IOS XE 17.15.4.1 is available on dashboard (November release), you will be able to resume migration from CS firmware to IOS XE.

This stable release candidate will feature...

  • UAC Auto Fallback feature that allows customers the option to automatically switch back to their selected uplink interface once network connectivity to Dashboard has been restored via that preferred interface.
  • Security improvements to address SNMP vulnerability
  • Image hardening for upgrade and downgrade scenarios
  • Fix for the ROMMON issue on C9300Ls
  • And various other bugs fixes as well as improvements

Please note

Users with devices running CS firmware can still opt to migrate to the IOS XE 17.18.1 beta image during this time. IOS XE 17.18.1 features a suite of new advanced routing, high availability, and cloud expansion features.

Users with devices already running any version of IOS XE 17.15.3 are still able to upgrade their devices to IOS XE 17.15.4. The option to upgrade to IOS XE 17.15.4 will be available if there is at least one network on a 17.15 version in the organization. This can also be enabled by a support case if needed.

For customers with devices currently on an IOS XE 17.15 version, no impact is expected, and no action is required. The primary factor for this temporary restriction is based on known issues with the CS to IOS XE migration. All devices currently on IOS XE 17.15 will continue to operate as expected, with full functionality and support.

We understand that this may cause inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we prioritize a stable and seamless experience for all users. Our goal is to ensure your network remains reliable and fully supported throughout this transition.

Thank you for your patience.
