Accelerate value delivery with the new switching firmware releases strategy

We are thrilled to introduce independent firmware releases for Meraki Switching (MS) and Catalyst-based Switching (CS), including the MS390 and migrated C9300 switches. This milestone furthers our commitment to delivering consistent and reliable features and quality updates to all our customers, regardless of your switching product models.

Why are we doing this?

This new firmware release approach will accelerate our value delivery, so you, as a customer, will experience more innovations faster and better, regardless of your switching product models. We will ensure a consistent user experience and interoperability on both firmware branches when adding new features, albeit with different release schedules.

What’s new?

We are adding the Catalyst Switching (CS) software for Catalyst-based switching (including MS390) on the dashboard. The split firmware branches will both use MS15.21.1 stable version as the baseline:

  • Meraki Switching firmware: only available for all non-MS390 Meraki Switching models. MS16 will be the latest beta version (coming soon), featuring improved remote network traffic analysis flow and enhanced network security.
  • Catalyst Switching (CS) firmware: only available for Catalyst-based switching, including MS390 and migrated C9300 switches.  The CS release branch starts from CS15.21.1 stable, which offers the same stability and quality improvements as MS15.21.1 stable.
    • CS networks must upgrade to CS15.21.1 stable before the CS16.1 software beta appears (coming soon).
    • CS (MS390) networks with MS15.21.1 GA image: no action is needed, as a label change will automatically appear on the dashboard.
    • Networks with CS15.21.1 will soon see a new beta version, CS16.1, which adds additional tailored features for Catalyst-based switching.
  • Customers with a mix of Meraki and Catalyst-based (MS390) switches in their environments will see the relevant versions in the appropriate tabs. You can upgrade both Meraki and Catalyst-based switches at the same time using our easy-to-use interface.
