Meraki SVGs (Visio/LucidChart Stencils)

Hi all!

During early lockdown, I got into Illustrator and decided to tackle the need for updated product stencils on my own. While plenty of other resources exist, I have been updating my own personal SVG files in the folder below

The link is public, so feel free to use and share as you see fit

Meraki SVGs

edit 11/15

  • Added request form here (let me know about files that need updating, or products/icons that are missing)
  • Added tracker so you can see what I'm working on

Peace

Zak

Straight out of Compton it’s …. @DrDray !  Thanks for these, very much appreciated

Loaded straight into Lucid with no issues and will use on my next project.

@AmyReyes - This deserves a mention on the next Community Award post.

Any suggestions on how to get these working correctly in Visio 365?  It just applies a theme to them which messes everything up 😞

Migrate to Lucid Chart.  🙂

Unfortunately, we need Visio for other things, since customers send us Visio diagrams.  So Visio it is.  If I convert them to PNG they work fine for basic use.

Lucid Charts can open and save Visio diagrams.

I was 100% Visio maybe 5 to 7 years ago.  IMHO, Visio just lots its edge, and then upped the price.

I agree with smccloud1 and zball8888, can we get them working for Visio. when you add them to Visio they turn out to be totally dark. Am i doing something not right ? Should i be seeing some youtube tutorials? Does it work for others in MS Visio ?

Some of the SVG open fine in Visio, but the technical ones fill up with all black.

Would be nice if they can at least be adjusted in the export to be usable in Visio.

Cisco has always, and still offered Visio stencils https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/visio-stencil-listing.html

Back in the 1990s and 2000s Visio had cool network tools in it - like you could have it scan a network for devices and auto-add them to a network diagram.  It was awesome.  This made Visio very popular.  It saved so much time.

Then Microsoft removed all the networking scanning features.

20 years later you don't really see people using Visio much for network diagrams.  There are a few "old schoolers" hanging in there - but the alterantatives (like LucidChart) that are cheaper and more modern (and they can can still read and export Visio diagrams).

I mention all of this because I think you might be struggling to get things working because you are using tooling that is not commonly used anymore, and hence people don't test much with it.

I think its a really subjective issue, Visio has always been the standard and many of us still use it because it doesn't really come short.

I have tried other tooling including lucidchart, but they are essentially made for flowcharts not for detailed low level diagramming. For me it feels off.

Anyway Cisco has/is always been 'Visio-minded' with decent detailed hardware stencils, so it's just obvious that we would expect the same from Meraki.

Hi there. The biggest problem with trying to help you out by making these work with Visio is the fact that I kinda just did this for fun, and was tired of waiting for someone else to do it.

Unfortunately, I don't have the skillset needed to create a proper stencil within Visio. I've tried, and it's cumbersome. In Illustrator I can just build the elements out manually, like switchports, and trace over product images to get sizing right. Vectorize it, and it's good to go in most applications. In Visio, I'd essentially have to create a CAD drawing, and I haven't explored simpler ways to convert my drawings over to it. I couldn't even tell you *why* some show up as black.

It seems like previous stencils all those years ago were outsourced, and that's probably why we haven't seen anything updated in a long time.

If I find the time to dedicate to it, I might be able to in the future. For now, I can only help by making clean SVGs and hope they work for your application. I'm with you, though, in hopes that I don't have to spend my free time doing this on everything we release. I haven't even had a chance to hit the backlog that I created a year ago 😞

Hi I totally understand, and I appreciate these SVG very much, they are great and I have been using them in Visio (just kind of convert them manually from images).

Keep up the good work 🙏

Kind regards, Frank
