UPDATE: this contest has ended. Thanks everyone for all the super satisfying spring cleaning pics! Our three randomly selected winners are: @Brash@zmann7, and @dlbircher. Congrats!

Spring has sprung here at Meraki HQ and that means it’s time to kick off our yearly Spring Cleaning Challenge!

The rules are simple: take a photo of your spring cleaning project and share it with us for a chance to win swag. We’d love to see before and after photos, but simply an after photo that you’re particularly proud of or an anxiety-inducing, yet aspirational before photo will do!

For a little inspiration, below is one of our favorites from last year courtesy of @TheShow

How to enter

Submit your photo(s) in a comment on this blog post before 11 a.m. PDT on Tuesday, April 5th (04/05/2022). We'll then pick three entries at random to win a Meraki Soma Brew Bottle!

Yes! So ready to see some aesthetically pleasing cabling!

Unfortunately I forgot to take a before shot but was pretty happy with this. (Featuring twist ties as I was out of Velcro strips)

Does it have to be Meraki gear or can it be other Cisco gear?

I got rid of my old Access Points:

94D4CF37-DA1A-4B8B-A12A-5C05727E072B.jpeg

and replaced them with those beufiful guys:

86A51583-AE2A-4702-A020-93DDAE86EB20.jpeg

(MR33/42/46, but the next possible cleaning will be removing of non WiFi 6 APs (MRx3 etc.))

I hope, that there will be beautiful WiFi 6e APs soon. I doubt that the MR57 was the first and only one. 🙂 hope to see more in the future.

  • Another thing I did (in my apartment) was to fix cabling:

JPEG-Bild.jpeg

I might change it at some point again, there are Cat6/7 cables utilizing Caps with a color code, but those are okay right now.

Not sure if it has to be Meraki cleanup's only, but this is the only Meraki one I have. Small but satisfying.

  • Extended out the bottom rack
  • Add patch panel and terminate all loose wires
  • Removed unused switch
  • Mounted firewalls in rack
  • Replaced power strip with PDU
  • Separated wall mount jacks from the rack
  • Eliminated fiber-to-ethernet adaptor and patched wan uplink directly to switch
  • All new patch cables color coded by function
    • Blue (access port)
    • white (trunk port)
    • yellow (WAN)
  • Cable management with lacing bars and velcro
  • Labeled all devices. (didn't have a cable labeler at my disposal)

Everything was in a closet on a shelf. Wires everywhere. What a mess. After we purchased the 2 Cisco Meraki switches I organized the wires and labeled everything. So much easier to diagnose and fix an issue quickly

Recently ran Cat6 cables for all Meraki APs. If you see yellow, you know it's Cat6 and WiFi/AP related.

Not the final photo, but started colour coding with the proper length cables the links at a client's site (everything was blue, EVERYTHING). Orange are uplinks, purple is voice, red is a managed service. The trendnet is no longer there. Not shown is the stack of 2960S's also colour coded.
