Are other devices able to connect to that AP when the device in question is having issues? It sounds more like a device specific issue. Is this iOS device up to date for iOS? Have you tried resetting network settings on the iOS device when it is having issues to see if that fixes the problem?

That's interesting, that's always been how Notes App has worked previously. Though I have noticed a few other things not behaving as expected with 11.3.1. I have noticed that the comments at the bottom of the lock screen, isn't showing all of the information that I have setup. On 11.4 beta 4 it is working right again. I did look to see if I could get licenses through VPP or Apple School Manager for Notes and it doesn't show up there either. It appears that Apple has set this up to be managed through the iOS update process and/or App Store if the Notes App is removed.

Yes, the 25.11 upgrade cleared all of the issues we were seeing with this AP being a "spoof." I see several devices connecting to the SSID was being considered a spoof previously.

So after the upgrade to 25.11 the spoof has disappeared, still strange it occurred to begin with but at least all is working correctly now.

@Asavoy I'm still waiting for Meraki to determine why the mis-identification is occurring to begin with. I've avoided restarting APs around it to allow Meraki to troubleshoot. The strangest part is that it only flagged one of the two SSIDs that are broadcasting as a Spoof. The SSID for student devices is working with no issues, so it is allowing us to be flexible and leave the AP alone so they can troubleshoot and investigate the issue.

@Tom-B Unfortunately Apple is in control of enforcing most of those setting and giving us rights to set those automatically through either Apple Config 2 or MDM. Basically if you can't do it through AC2, you won't likely be able to do it through the MDM. I have asked Apple for the ability to force location services on and to allow us the ability to turn on location services within the Meraki App. At least now we have an option to force notifications on in the Meraki App so that's something at least.

@rowell I would suspect that if I changed the setting yes everything would work correctly. Meraki support has confirmed though that the "rogue" AP is actually our AP and not anything else. They are actively researching why the other APs are flagging this replacement MR34 as a rogue AP.

Just as an update. Meraki support has confirmed this is unexpected behavior and investigating why this is occurring on the AP. At this point it is only having limited impact. The strange part is that it is only affecting one of the two SSID we are broadcasting. I will wait to see what Meraki support can determine as I'm sure being able to troubleshoot an issue like this provides them feedback for improving the product in the future. Here is a screenshot of the Air Marshal settings for reference.

@PhilipDAth Right now our APs are reporting up to date on 25.9 and I have a support case open with Meraki so I want to see what they have to say before rolling 25.11. Thanks for the information though it does confirm that I was headed down the right path on the issue.

As @PhilipDAth said there is no one answer. It will very much depend on what the users are doing when they are connected. Here at the school district I work in we aim for 30 at a time and that seems to work very well. The other day during state testing we had 50+ connected on one AP with no issues during testing. The biggest variable when determining WiFI need is what kind of bandwidth do you need to support for each device.

Okay so this is even stranger now. The APs around the problem AP are showing a spoof with a MAC address that is remarkably similar to the MAC on the AP having issues.

@Asavoy It is multiple iPad Air 2 having issues and also my test MacBook. We have tried resetting Network Settings on the teacher iPad and even tried a second iPad for her with the same issues. The iPads are running iOS 11.3 and 11.3.1 and the MacBook is OSX 10.13.4.

@Adam It's the same SSIDs that are broadcast and working everywhere else in the building. It just seems to be specific to this one classroom and there has been strange behavior with now two different MR34 in the room.

So we were having issues in one of our classrooms with iPads (iPad Air) not connecting other than the teacher's iPad (iPad Air 2). We reset the MR34 and even went so far to replace it with a Spare MR34. Now the student iPad Airs are connecting but teacher iPad Air 2 are not. Error Log for Teacher iPad Even when trying to MacBook on the AP for troubleshooting we see the same type of messages. Both MR34 are running the Current version: MR 25.9 firmware. We are only broadcasting on 5 and have 2.4 turned off (Power 0). A cable test to the AP is also showing no issues. Cable Test Any thoughts as to what may be causing issues in this haunted room of ours?

When you click the link for DEP does the page say it's communicating with Apple? Are you also able to do a full sync with Apple? Are you using the free or paid version of Meraki? If you are still having issues, I would suggest speaking to Apple and/or Meraki about the issue. I am able to assign settings without an issue to my iPads.

@MikeMandalorian I'm sure hoping it's a bug, because if this is now the "new" version is going to work. I want the old one back. I much rather would be able to copy profiles then having to build them by hand for every single network when we make a change.

@MikeMandalorian What about forcing an erase through Meraki? I have seen this also trigger the device to download the settings correctly.

I have also seen this occur if an iPad has not been reset to factory defaults in a while or if there was a change to the DEP settings after the device was last reset. If you were to erase all content and settings on your test iPad I would assume it should change to pushed.

As a K12 Admin, I will step in and say Apple Classroom is awesome for teachers to monitor iPad usage. One of the new upcoming features is that soon teachers will be able to use a MacBook to monitor Apple Classroom while still having their iPad available for use in teaching. With some of the latest changes to Apple Classroom is that you no longer need to import from your SIS or even Meraki to utilize Apple Classroom. Teachers can create their own classes and add students via a code similar to Google Classroom. From personal experience I would recommend setting it up through Apple School Manager though. https://school.apple.com/ Once it is implemented there you can import it into Meraki and have auto-tags generated based on classes. Yes, it is more work than letting teachers create their own classes but in the long run the features you get for having everything integrated is worth it. If anyone has any questions feel free to hit me up as I have been working with Meraki and ASM since it was rolled out in 2016.

Just curious to see if anyone else is having issues with profiles copying over between networks. This has always worked in the past up until the recent changes in Dashboard. Profile to copy over Copied profile in new network No I don't mind re-adding all of the setup I have done in the other network but I'd much rather it just work as intended. I have opened a case already but thought I would see if anyone is experiencing this behavior.
