We are excited to announce the official release of Version 1 (V1) of the Dashboard API!
Over the past 3+ years, the Dashboard API has proven to be an incredibly useful toolkit for network creation, management, and monitoring. It has saved countless hours and effort for thousands of developers and network admins, by allowing them to streamline and automate workflows and build custom applications for managing IT.
To date, we’ve added over 400 endpoints to this API service - all under “Version 0” of the Dashboard API. As part of our “API First” development strategy (creating an API endpoint for every experience in the Meraki dashboard), Meraki is producing new endpoints at record velocity. To make sure we had the processes and standards in place to keep up with this scale, we led an initiative to revamp the versioning process for this API service. This was a massive team effort that required a lot of input from our developer community - thank you to all who helped us shape this process!
We are now excited to release Version 1 (V1) of the Dashboard API, and with it, a new standard for future versioning and endpoint releases that promotes consistency, efficiency, and (as always!) simplicity of use. As part of the V1 release, we’re providing new frameworks, documentation, libraries, CI/CD, and tons of new operations with more to come.
We are confident V1 will dramatically improve the developer experience and be a launching off point for implementation and usage of the Dashboard API for many Meraki users!

Hi everyone! Last month we ran our first-ever, Virtual Hackathon as a forum for partners to proactively address COVID-19 related scenarios with creative solutions, built with Meraki API services. We were so excited by the variety of solutions submitted - thank you to all that participated for your rapid development, ingenuity, and positivity! We hope others will be inspired by these solutions to start investigating what's available through our Marketplace of turnkey, pre-built solutions - or look into building their own automations, workflows, or new applications with our open and extensible API services. (We have a variety of open source projects to help you get started!) With that, congratulations to the winners of this Hackathon!! We recognized the teams below across six unique categories: Over Hackathon Winner: Quick Pick-up from NTT This solution enabled contactless order pick up for restaurant patrons. Using the Meraki MV API, the team built a dashboard that shows snapshots of vehicles in parking spaces and easily allows restaurant admins to assign orders to appropriate drivers. The solution also integrates with Webex Teams to provide notifications when parking spots are occupied, drivers are waiting, and when those spaces are then vacated (order was completed). Public Vote Winner: Filter Point from Impact In the era of COVID-19, Impact has rolled out more Umbrella+Meraki networks than ever before to keep clients safe while working on their home networks (outside of the office firewall). Their submission to this hackathon was focused on answering the simple question, “Can I push our existing Cisco Meraki configuration (for blacklists, whitelists, filtered categories) to Cisco Umbrella?” Using the Meraki API and Umbrella API, the team at Impact developed a solution to sync configurations between different Meraki networks in one organization, between different Meraki organizations, and between Meraki and Umbrella organizations. Retail/Hospitality: RAPID (Retail Android Pandemic Incident Disrupter) from NTT COVID-19 has changed the retail space drastically, prompting the need to ensure the safety of employees and customers by tracking occupancy. A second team at NTT built this solution to allow clients to keep an accurate count of people entering and exiting their store/location and feed that information into a web UI. This UI shows the store’s capacity, current count of people, and customers waiting in line for service. The solution also ties in with Webex Teams to notify employees as they approach, meet, or exceed capacity. On top of that, the team also developed a feature to allow customers to scan a QR code to put themselves into a queue if they prefer not to wait outside in a line. Manufacturing/Healthcare: Citizen Care Pod from Insight The team at Insight focused on a problem that impacts every industry - how to safely reopen businesses. Their solution addresses what they see as the first step to reopening: providing screening and detection solutions for staff and guests. To meet this need, the team focused on hacking a solution for their Citizen Care Pods, which are portable virus testing centers to aid in detection and screening wherever you have a large group of people (ie: construction sites, retail, or entertainment venues). The Citizen Care Pod is outfitted with a variety of Cisco Meraki technologies, including MV Cameras for people counting, networking gear to stay connected, and Webex Teams for private conversations about results. All of this technology is tracked through the Insight Connected Platform for easy management of the pod. Through this solution, admins can receive alerts if people are gathering at pod locations and easily communicate with onsite and relevant stakeholders to address the situation. Operations: NORRIS from WWT Malware and ransomware are becoming all too common. Left unchecked, these threats can devastate corporate networks. The team at WWT built this solution to easily integrate Cisco Stealthwatch for Meraki networks. This integration allows admins to identify where clients are, how badly they are infected, and quickly isolate them with Meraki MX or MR firewall rules. This powerful, “single button quarantine” of malicious clients automates the changing of VLANS and firewall rules to isolate infected devices from the rest of the network until a technician can be dispatched to resolve the situation. Define your own Challenge: Automated Network Deployment & Support Healthcare App from CAE Technology Services Deploying sites rapidly and securely is a challenge for healthcare organizations. To address this, the team at CAE used the Meraki Dashboard API to create a single step deployment tool to set up an entire suite of Meraki solutions. To kick off a Meraki deployment, the admin simply enters the hospital ID number and serial numbers of the Meraki devices into the app. From there, all of the configuration is completed automatically, including configuration of hostnames, network tags, IP schemas, VLAN assignment, switchport assignment, and more. This will save hours of configuration time and money! Furthermore, this application integrates into the Webex Teams API to automatically create a new Space for the new Meraki network and adds in the on-demand CAE NOC (Network Operations Centre) support group. This will get new healthcare sites set up, running, and supported quicker than ever. Congratulations to all of the winners above, and thank you to all participants for being a part of this special event. We can’t wait to see what our community comes up with next! If your team is working on an API-related project that you’d love to share with us, please reach out here!

The Dashboard API documentation has been migrated to our new platform in preparation for the upcoming v1 major release this summer. Check out this post for more information! Check it out at meraki.io/api
What's new?
Improved search and navigation
Detailed information about every endpoint
A built in demo environment to allow you to easily demo and test the API, or update the settings with your information
The Meraki Python Library with code snippets in our Template section of the console
API v1-beta
Check out the new API v1-beta docs to see what's coming this summer!
A note about the Dashboard API SDKs:
We will no longer update the SDKs that were previously generated through our third-party provider. Going forward, we have decided to focus on our custom Python library, which takes advantage of our API mechanics and provides a simple and unified experience.
GitHub repositories will remain available, so that the code can be forked and extended. Alternatively, since the Dashboard API is built upon the OpenAPI specification, you can use a wealth of tools to generate an SDK in any language you like using our API spec.

Hi @aws_architect! I reached out to support on this and found out it is an open bug that is being investigated. It didn't appear to have any impact or cause any issues with deployments though - is that not the case in your deployment? Is it causing issues? Please let us know!

@BlakeRichardson - oh no, that sounds like a huge hassle! There are some tools Apple has made available to help in this process. The first is "Activation Lock Bypass" - it's available on the device page under Mobile Security. The device does need to be enrolled in DEP and have Supervised settings applied for this to work! You can also prevent users from logging in with personal icloud/itunes accounts on a device...but usually folks want to allow end users to do this to back up their devices or download personal apps. If you did want to block this, it's under Restrictions> ios restrictions (supervised)> "Allow modifying account settings" It didn't sound like this was an issue in your case - but like Android, you can also prevent users from factory reseting the device under Restrictions>ios restrictions (supervised)> "Allow Erase All Content and Settings" Hope that helps in the future!!

Location services can be disabled by the user - this is an apple restriction/requirement for the time being. The work arounds described in this thread are definitely an option! Another feature to be aware of is Lost Mode (for supervised devices) - which will "wake" location services, even if the user has disabled them. It wont lock location services on once Lost mode is disabled, which sounds like what you're looking for. Thought I'd mention it anyway 🙂 https://documentation.meraki.com/SM/Monitoring_and_Reporting/Using_Lost_Mode_to_Recover_Missing_iOS_Devices

@DanHarmon - if you can't work with Apple to get those added to your DEP on the backend, there is always the option of manually enrolling the ipads in DEP using Apple Configurator 2 (as long as they are running at least iOS 11) More on that here https://documentation.meraki.com/SM/Device_Enrollment/Enrolling_and_Supervising_iOS_Devices_using_Apple_Configurator_2.5_or_Later#Manual_Enrollment_-_Add_device(s

@Jacko - Just checking on this - have you removed the SM agent AND the enrollment profile? Either one will continue checking in to SM. Here's more on that... https://documentation.meraki.com/SM/Device_Enrollment/Uninstalling_Systems_Manager_and_Removing_Managed_Devices You can always call in to support as well! I would say the only time to avoid (if possible) is 11-12pm PST. That tends to be the busiest time - in general.

@PhilipDAth - that's right, dashboard will not let you copy profiles between dashboard ORGs, but you can between different networks in a single org. (I wish we had this! I submitted this request.) It sounds like in this case @Jacko is looking to copy profiles between networks (in one org) and not between orgs.
