About ten years ago, I was asked to design a network as my junior carrier at some place far from the city for a quite big school with around 100 staff and educators. At that time, all desktops were connected through LAN cable for intranet and internet access. Thus, I embraced the wireless connection by preparing all the necessities with a minimum budget and 1 Mbps internet speed.

It was nothing suspicious, it was a typical working day, and it abruptly got off from the mount and hung there because the LAN cable could hold it. Otherwise, it might hit someone that position underneath. Some part of the plastic mount feels brittle. I could crack them with little force. An aircon room may also cause the dryness of the plastic, but it would be good if someone from Meraki confirmed this.

The position was indoor on the ceiling and office area so I can't tell but no AC vent directly hitting the unit. I am not sure about customised housing. But it seems possible because there are screw holes on the inside camera unit that are used to lock the plastic mount.

I have an issue with one of the MV21 unit that abruptly hangs around (luckily the LAN cable can hold it) It could cause safety. Now I'm worried about the other units' durability, in one of the pictures the plastic cover feels so soft like "shrimp crisp". What I expect for the Meraki MV unit is the unit dies first because of lifespan, instead of the casing broken down in the first place. Talked to Meraki support, and it is out of warranty and there is nothing they help with on this. Talked to my local distributor, and the lead time for the new MV unit is very long (I have placed an order for 3 MV22 in March, and expect units to only arrived by mid of September 2022). The MV21 unit is still working nice, would be good if I can get the replacement for the plastic mount only.

You could tag one of your AP to broadcast one specific SSID that won't be available on the others. VLAN setup will help a lot on managing IP, Firewall, Traffic Shaping, Group policy

To update you guys. Spoken to a sales representative, and they may loan the testing kit however it will up to 2 months which not suffice with the lead time of the new camera. A temporary solution will do, install any IP Camera during the order process.

I have contacted Meraki support. Unfortunately, it is out of warranty, and they only suggested replacing the camera. Thanks for the suggestion, will check with our reseller.

I plan to add more MV and additional Switch to my environment. Unfortunately, the vendor said it could be 5-7 months? I believe it was caused by the supply chain issue starting last year. Does this "very" long time to wait happen worldwide?

Thanks PhilipDAth and SoCalRacer Since there is no spare part from Meraki, I would like to think about to recreate a new back cover or the whole housing if possible. It is quite a lot of things to do, need to find a third party to do this for us.

Thanks MerakiDave for the explanation from a support perspective. Currently, I am able to glue (epoxy) the cracked part and can mount it normally but as we know glue is only a temporary solution which meant it always make me aware of the glue can last longer to hold the weight so it would be very good if I can change the housing. I am looking for the 3rd party solution who can provide the outer case/ housing of MV21, please let me know if there is anyone willing to sell/ donate the MV21 that is broken/ non-functionally anymore.

We have an unusual case with our Meraki MV21 with cracked back cover since it is more than 3 years which meant out of warranty, anyone knows where we can buy a new outer case (white plastic dome and back cover) for Meraki MV21? The camera device is still functioning perfectly and we have 6 years enterprise licence. Asked Meraki support and no good response at all. Thank you.
