Hi All,   We are looking at implement MX appliances and Cisco Umbrella as a move to a SDWAN solution.   I have a couple of questions and I'm hoping the collect maybe able to answer.   1. Do you need layer 7 firewall rules if you have the  DNS layer protection (Cisco Umbrella) option enabled? 2. If you do need layer 7 firewall rules with the DNS layer protection (Cisco Umbrella) option enabled which take priority?   Thanks ... View more

MAC/password authorizartion

Hi All,   I don't think this is possible but may as well as the collective and see.   At one of our Production site we have 4 SSID's 3 have password authorization and 1 is guest authorization (i.e. guest registration).   1 of the SSID's is for production kit (i.e.. tablet, terminals etc).  Anyway I've been asked if there if we can get a bit of equipment on the wireless via MAC authorization.   My question - is there a way of using the existing production SSID  for both MAC and Password authorization or would I have to create another SSID with just MAC authorization.   Thanks Dave ... Hi All,   We are going to be implementing SD-WAN with MX appliance and I was wondering if anyone know of any good training courses  or companies either free or paid.   Obviously with the current situation they will have to be online courses   Thanks Dave ... View more

Hi NolanHerring, Thanks for the information. Unfortunately having two separate SSID's (different name) is not really an option so I think the dual band with band steering maybe be the best option at the moment. Thanks Dave ... View more

Dual Band and Band Steering

Hi All,   Looking at using the Band Steering option to push devices which are capable of 5ghz over to that but still need the 2.4ghz as well.   So may question is where to set the band steering option, the doco I found says configured on a per SSID basis under Access Control.  However I noticed there is a RF profile where you can configure Band Steering for either per AP or per SSID and all the AP's use the RF profile it would make sense to configure it there.   So where is the best place to configure this option or do you need to do both?   Thanks Dave ... Guest WiFi, Vlan and DHCP

by BBDave in Wireless LAN

We have the following WiFi setup at one of our offices.  10 Cisco AP’s being managed by a Cisco Wireless Controller there are two main SSID’s for the office a Corporate and Guest.  The corporate WiFi is routed over the WAN and the Guest is routed out via a dedicated DSL line. The DSL router is plug into a network and a VLAN has been assigned to the port and the Guest interface on the Cisco controller has the same VLAN assigned. Devices on the corporate WiFi receive a DHCP address from the local DC and devices on the Guest receive an address from the Cisco Controller. So it’s been decided that we are going to replace the existing Cisco AP’s and Controller with Meraki AP’s and cloud controller which is simple enough but they still wish to use the DSL line for the Guest SSID which seem to be a little difficult. If I set the SSID to NAT mode I can get a DHCP address from the Cloud Controller but this does not sort VLAN’s and will not use the DSL line. If I put the SSID in Bridge or Layer 3 mode I can VLAN it off to the DSL Line but there is no DHCP server, so the devices do not get any addresses. Has anyone come across this situation or have any ideas.  The only ideas I can think of is either put a small MX appliance in or use the current router.   Thanks Dave ... View more

Hi All,   Thanks for all the replies.   I think I'm going to stick with individual networks and manually sync them for the moment just create them as and when we bring a new site online with meraki AP's.  Going to log a case with meraki a well see what they say.   Thanks Dave ... View more

Dashboard Templates and Networks

Hi All,   I'm new(ish) to Meraki.   We have 28 Meraki AP's at on of our sites which is providing access to company laptop's and for devices in the factory via two SSID's.   When the dashboard was initially setup only one network was created which seemed OK as there was only one site. But now as per normal there is now talk of implementing meraki at other sites.   I'm thinking of creating a template based copied from the current network and then creating individual networks for each site and binding them to the template.   Should I use a template and individual networks or just have one network for all sites? What are the issue with using a template versus individual network and manually syncing them? Will all the setting from the current network copy over to the template?   I hope that makes sense.   Thanks Dave ... View more

Guest SSID and MX84 appliance

Hi all,e   We have 27 MR33 AP's deployed at one of our manufacturing sites. We drop all the company traffic onto the local network. We have a guest SSID which is currently on our current Cisco kit. We are looking at moving this onto the new meraki kit. We are looking at purchasing an MX84 security appliance to provide DHCP and internet access to the guest SSID. The MX84 appliance would be located in our data centre. We’d like to tunnel the guest SSID to the MX84 appliance in the data centre for DHCP internet access. Would the MX84 appliance support this. I have seen someone referring to VPN – tunnel data to a concentrator and does the MX84 support this function.   Thanks Dave ... View more

Hi,   We are just moving over to Meraki MR33 and the cloud dashboard.    We currently have a Cisco Wireless Controller and Cisco AP's where we create the Guest accounts.  We currently have a Guest WiFi which is Vlans off to a separate DSL line via the controller.     We would like to do the same on the Meraki Dashboard but allow guests to create their own accounts.   Is there anyway of doing this without a MX appliance?   Thanks Dave         ... Hi everyone,   Thanks for all the replies.  Just wanted to let you the autoconnect is working now, PhilipDAth you were right it was something to do with the GPO and not the SSID.   I'm not sure if it was the SSID name length or if I'd made a typo in the GPO but I changed and reduced the SSID name and now it works just as before.   So a big thanks to you all. dave ... Hi,   I think you maybe right as I was checking the event viewer on the radius server and there is nothing for the test laptop.   I'm wondering if it the SSID name it doesn't like because if I reset it back to the original name if autoconnects.   Look like its back to the drawing board.   Thanks everyone for the help. Hi   I made a copy of the orginal policy and changed the SSID name to new one.   I've changed the Wirless policy back ton the live SSID and that works so the policy must be right.   I'm assuming you mean the associations method which is WPA2 and the authentication method is EAP (PEAP).   Thanks Dave             ... Radius Authentication and GPO to autoconnect to SSID

Hi,   We currently have Cisco AP's and a Cisco 5500 wireless controller with radius authentication to our internal SSID. There is a computer policy in AD which autoconnects machines to this SSID when a user logs onto a machine.   We are looking at implementing Meraki at one of our sites and replicating the same SSID name and GPO setup going forward.    I have setup a SSID with radius authentication on the meraki controller/NPAS server and a new test policy in AD for autoconnecting to the SSID.  The machine is getting the polcy as I have added a deny policy for another SSID which it does however the machine does not want to autoconnect when I login.  I can connect manually to the SSID with no problem, has anyone else come across this issue?  I'm new to the meraki setup so any help would be appreciate.   Thanks Dave ...
