I finally got the ones I purchased back in November last year and added them to my Meraki networks. Helium asks you to allow outgoing connections to 443 and 22 and to open port 44158 for the miner work correctly. Both My Meraki networks identified the device correctly as a Helium-Hotspot.  This one is connected via WiFi with no port forwarding  This one was setup wired and has the correct port forwarding enabled (DMZ for this guy) and I see a whole lot more connections going through it (sadly it is a MUCH slower pipe connecting it so not much more data)   The above is correct, if you disallow mining in the content filter, it stopped it from reaching the cloud. ... Yeah I'm wanted to use it for logging mostly. Could also use it in a small IT department. When setting up a new laptop a tech has to let it send him an email to setup the new device on the current network. If you want to know who setup the device check the logs. Just seems like a cheap and easy way to help SMBs with an audit trail. ... View more

Not sure how i missed this as an option but I was super excited to discover it, Thanks @PhilipDAth  In your article  you linked to the Sponcered Guest documentation and  it got me thinking, Would this be a good way to keep an audit log of who added a device on the "business WiFi"? I'm thinking in those SMBs without a RADIUS or even the smaller sites without a local domain. Anyone have some insights on using this method?   Planning on using this with a few of my Mom and Pop shops, I hope this feature will help others.  ... View more

Yeah the quality of the water bottle is top notch and even the bag is nice, great for my soccer gear.   @BlakeRichardson  Yeah we have LED strips in the office as lighting and they give a unique lighting experience. Some ISP have to have the MAC registered on their side. Does the MX work on another network, or with a USB Modem? Can you put the MX behind the Linksys Router and get it online? Also can you take the IP the Linksys router gets and static that via the Local IP assignment: Connect a client to the MX. The local status page can be accessed via the management port or via the LAN ports. Once you have obtained an IP address, browse to the url wired.meraki.com. On this page, click Configure. The page should now prompt for login credentials. If local login credentials were configured via Dashboard, please use these credentials. Otherwise, the default login is the device's serial number as the username and a blank password. Each device is labeled with its serial number on the bottom label. On the Configure page, set the needed connection information. ... View more

I noticed on the Meraki sported modem page https://documentation.meraki.com/MX/Cellular/3G_-_4G_Cellular_Failover there is a * by that modem with the following warning * Requires connecting the MX to the cloud to download the latest cellular modem definitions    You had me scared as my older Verizon USB620L is no longer listed, so I tested and it worked perfectly. Question: Does the MX work without issue on a copper WAN connection? IF so, you said it never shows a cellular device as connected while on a wired WAN connection and the USB modem plugged in correct? Do you happen to have a cradlepoint or like around you can test the SIM in?  If the above are true you coudl try a factory reset on the MX. ... View more

I like to use 1 foot or .5 foot cables to match to 24 panels and top and bottom of each switch. Super clean and so easy to identify. Example: 24 panel MS220 48 24panel 24panel MS220 48 23 panel If money is not an object.... check out the guys at Patchbox https://patchbox.com/patchbox-plus I've only seen deployed once but it is super easy and efficient. ... When my old company migrated away from sonicwalls we stood up an MX in our HQ, added a few users, added the routes we needed for access and tested. Then went to a site, stood up a MX on the backup circuit as you described and moved a few users over just as we did at HQ. Tested a good 3 weeks and then moved the whole HQ over, then the 1st site. Once we got the bugs worked out, we went site by site swapping the whole sites network out in a day, and tested for a week. Biggest thing we learned was you have to put actual business traffic across the test network. Web browsing is not business traffic (not for us anyway) and then only true test is to do the cut over and see what doesn't work. fortunately we were able to do all the initial testing after hours for HQ and at a small site with little traffic. Hope your project goes well and you enjoy meraki as much much as we did. It really is almost always simple with meraki. The challenges come when you try to integrate 3rd parties ... View more

It was guided, and in this era of constant leaks and hacks 2FA is a must. You can choose to setup 2FA on your account and "demo" what the guided setup will look like for your users = Click your username in the top right > My Profile > scroll to the Two-Factor authentication section. Good luck with the conversion and remember to save those one time codes in a safe place (I use and love 1Password) ... View more
