You're plugging it in to the ethernet port on the back of the 30H and not one of the 4 switch ports on the bottom? (I've done this before)

We find that is certainly worth doing a proper survey if you're doing a larger install when all AP's need to be justified. Ekahau is very good for this and i'd recommend taking a look or getting someone in

That depends on the environment. In high-density deployments it's recommended to stay away from wide channels due to it being harder to avoid co-channel and adjacent channel interference if you have less channels (which is a direct consequence of having wider channels). In most corporate environments 20MHz channels are used.
