Return switchports matching a specific tag in v1?

by ChrisLaird in Developers & APIs

‎01-26-2023 09:13 AM
I'm trying to monitor a specific set of switchports across our network. All of them have the same tag (cameras), but are spread across ~300 switches and ~10,000 switchports. Of those 10,000 ports, I'm only interested in the 85 that match the tag.   In the old v0 API, I'm finding plenty of examples that would have worked, and ChatGPT is happy to write me a script that should have solved my problem in about 5 seconds. But it seems that, in the new v1 API, I can only query ports by switch, not by tag, so I'll need to return every switch, then every port, then filter out just the ports I need. Then, querying those ports to get their usage within a time period seems like an additional layer of issues in v1.   Is there some mechanism to do this that I should be seeing? If it used to be as simple as "https://api.meraki.com/api/v0/networks/{network_id}/switchPorts/usage?timespan={six_hours_ago_unix}-{now_unix}&tag={tag}", I'm hoping that they gave us a new method when they took the old method away. ... @Ryan_Milesand @PhilipDAth thanks for the suggestions. I missed the notifications in email so I just saw your responses now.   I can do that as a 1-off, but I need to keep looking for a way to automate that process into aggregate reports. Doing it as a 1-off should be usable for a quick report (say once per day for 2 weeks), but not ideal for longer term data reporting. I like scheduling API jobs for stuff like that, but I can't find anywhere in the API to pull this type of data easily. ... View more

Summary report of least-used APs by client count?

Hello, hoping someone knows how to do this, either in the Dashboard or with the API. I have 1300 Meraki APs spread across a few dozen buildings, hundreds of different rooms, hallways, attics, basements. I'm looking to properly balance the network, meaning redeploy unused or massively underused APs to high-density areas.   But to do that, I need good data on the usage of each AP, preferably by client count over a day. The summary report page only gives summary data for the top 50 devices, so I need a way to get the data for the other 1250 devices. Am I missing something obvious? ... View more

It's a configuration test software from Laerdal medical. We're in the process of making changes to the way their devices communicate, so we're running the configuration verification tool and it's failing on the network pieces. We have their configuration guide for normal Cisco controllers, which walks through adding custom mdns strings and modifying settings, but there's nothing for Meraki. ... View more

It's just 2 windows laptops connected to wireless, each running the vendor's software. The software works perfectly when the two laptops are wired, but the multicast goes missing when both laptops are wireless. We didn't expect this to be the case, since both wired and wireless devices are all configured to use the same vlan 10. ... View more

I'm not sure if the multicast to unicast conversion is doing it. Our network is around ~1,100 APs and we're only testing on 1-2 APs, so turning off that setting seems like a mighty big hammer for such a small nail.   I've checked but am not seeing any firewalls in the way. I've made sure they're turned off for this. Client isolation is not enabled.  ... View more

Do MR APs block multicast within the same vlan?

by ChrisLaird in Wireless LAN

I think I might be misunderstanding something about how Meraki handles multicast. We have 4 scenarios, but only 3 work.   1. broken - two laptops in a client/server pair. the client says "_simlink._tcp.local" queries looking for its server, the server is constantly broadcasting its address. When the two are wired on vlan 10, it works perfectly. When the two are connected wirelessly through an MR42 to vlan 10, the traffic can't make it through, according to Wireshark. It looks like some apple bonjour traffic from other devices on vlan 10 is making it through, but not the traffic we're looking for   2. working - apple devices using the bonjour gateway. easy peasy, just not relevant above since we're not sending traffic to a different network.   3. working - video encoders and decoders using the IGMP querier settings in meraki, all within same vlan   4. working - video encoders and decoders using the PIM sparse mode through a nexus switch, to traverse vlans.   We're trying to figure out how to get the first scenario working, where we don't need to traverse vlan, it's not apple's bonjour, and as far as I'm aware, we don't need IGMP. Thanks in advance. ... View more

MV10 the security camera, or MT10 the temp sensor? Either way, if this were me I'd start by connecting a laptop to that vlan, in that location, on that AP, and make sure traffic is passing. I've been burned by a missing VLAN tag too many times. ... View more

I think that depends on the materials of the walls and the density requirements within classrooms.  I also try to keep them "as far away as practical" as a rule, but in our classrooms, we haven't often found that to be very possible at a great distance. We have plenty of high-density classrooms and lecture halls with 2,3,4 APs all within 10-20 feet of each other. Most other classrooms are 1 AP per room, probably about 10-15 apart with walls in between. We've had it this way for about 3 years now and performance has been pretty solid. Our profiles keep them at 20 MHz channels, channels 149 and 153 are disabled to prevent interference with Airplay devices. In areas with drywall walls, we turn down transmit strength on 2.4ghz, but many of our buildings are much older and don't require that due to the contruction materials.   But, if it was new construction and I had the choice of placement, I'd expect omnidirectional APs to be placed in the center of each room. Having them hug the walls doesn't make sense to me. ... View more

I love that we're all doing this, and that Meraki is hosting this and encouraging us to participate, but did anyone else see the news today about Google's Deepmind AI making a massive breakthrough in AI-driven protein folding? While we all fold@home using tens of thousands of GPUs and CPUs, I wonder if we'll no longer be needed soon! Sad day for this competition, but great day for global humanity! If I read the articles correctly, I believe their Alphafold is able to predict with above 90% accuracy in just two weeks already, using just 100-200 GPUs.   https://www.cnbc.com/2020/11/30/deepmind-solves-protein-folding-grand-challenge-with-alphafold-ai.html ... @Network-dad  Fun question. The Macs I deployed through JAMF. Took about 48 hours to get a working deployment that will drop the correct config in place. For some reason that kept breaking the ability to launch on its own. The final version will check the config and if it’s wrong, reinstall and unload/reload the daemon. Bummer that macos can’t fold using the gpu.  windows machines I did by hand over RDP. I had the installer and accessory  files in a network share to make it quicker, and used a .bat file to update firewall rules and move the config into place. To use the GPU I couldn’t install it as a service, so if those reboot I can tell in my central FAHcontrol and can log back in.  I have 1 Linux VM running using the fling appliance. I gave it the whole host, which is normally great at being a vm host, but is surprisingly terrible at folding.  ... View more

@JanVincent  I check it in both places. ExtremeOverclocking is good at tracking the 24hour average, but I'm not sure it's entirely accurate. In the FAHControl application, it says I'm at 9,173,000 for today. I think ExtremeOverclocking actually took about 72 hours for the 24 hour average to catch up and "match" the estimate from FAHcontrol.   edit: I mean I do think EO is accurate, I'm just not sure it updates as quickly as I expected to large changes in daily point totals.     ... @Network-dad  woah nice! I'm jealous... most of my devices are macs, which don't support GPU folding. I haven't tried OCing any of my windows cards, I figure everything is already hot enough as is. Your laptop alone pushes you up into the top tier of team contributors. It's fun watching the extemeoverclocking page to see our projected growth in team rankings. We've moved from 590 down to 380 in the last few weeks, and EO has us moving up another few positions every day, although the competition is certainly getting fiercer now.   https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?t=243108 ...
