Thanks. What about client roaming like using fast-roaming 802.11r. When a client moves from AP1 to AP2, how do Aps handoff the info such as authentication etc ? Does this happens just over the Air without needing to traverse the switch they are connected to? How do APs create a Mesh? Does it happen over the Air or Layer 2 communication via switch. I need to understand if this happens directly over the Air or the frame comes into the switch they are connected and then goes out to another AP.

LOL what a helpful response. Support is going to say we are break-fix so reach out to your SE. Well looks like time to post on Reddit wireless group.

Yes I can do that but I want to understand what are the use cases where APs needs to communicate with each other on layer 2. Like do they need to communicate for RF changes, client roaming, broadcast, multicast etc? That's what I am trying to understand.

We are working on blocking communication within the same VLAN, so two hosts on the same VLAN will not be able to communicate with each other. We have many access points (APs) on a single VLAN. Do the APs need to communicate with each other(layer2)? If so, for what purpose? Can someone confirm?

What do you mean by "splash page with Meraki authentication."? This is how we are set up currently, everything related to Guest wifi never leaves Meraki. When I check the options I don't see anything that I can do that never expires. The only option I see it to whitelist the user/mac and it becomes forever....not something we want. This contract setup is a long-term deal so it's going to be needed for many years. It's hard for us to tell when a user comes and their contract ends etc. I am looking for a more seamless option.

Hello everyone, I’m looking for some advice on managing our wireless network’s guest access. Currently, our setup grants guest access for 24 hours via a built-in captive portal. However, we have a situation where we need to extend access for a group of contractors, ideally up to four months, without having to manually manage MAC addresses through a whitelist, which would be tedious and challenging to maintain. We are not using Meraki Sentry, and I'm interested in understanding our options for a BYOD setup that would accommodate this need. Is there a way to manually adjust the expiration dates for specific devices or a more streamlined method to extend access for select users without frequent manual updates? Any suggestions or experiences with similar scenarios would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

@Ryan_Miles So the issue is I see the "wired Mac" section empty on Meraki event alerts. So it can't even match it. Yea, I will probably open a support case to understand more and what I am missing.

lol you were partially right. @Ryan_Miles provided the section I missed on the documentation. But still, you were wayyy off on your answer. Apple & oranges.

@Ryan_Miles This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you. It does make sense now. However, currently, I have Meraki as a Trunk port with native vlan for Mgmt IP. All VLANs are allowed. I also have other Cisco APs on the environment. Meraki APs can see the BSSID but cannot see the Cisco APs wired mac. Any idea? They are connected on the same switch for different VLANs. But since Meraki is on a trunk port it should have been able to see all the Wired MACs.

Certainly, but I was emphasizing that you hadn't actually read the question. It's preferable not to provide an answer simply for the sake of responding.

So do you mind elaborating then? I don't see anywhere on documentation that explains how AP finds out the wired MAC. I see how it compares between Wired MAC & BSSID to classify as a Rogue. Below is a specific scenario I am trying to understand My question was how is the Meraki AP able to detect the AP Wired Mac address? If I have 2 different APs on different VLANs configured as Access Ports. How does 1 AP see the Wired MAC of another AP?

You didn't read the question here again - "Remember that clients that do not support 802.11w will be rejected." --> I have mentioned that the client connects but after a few hours, it automatically disconnects. I have verified the supplicant supports WPA3 & 802.11W.

Hello. I have noticed you are very quick at responding but I don't think you really read the question but rather just the subject line. So most of your answers don't directly address the question. My question was how is the Meraki AP able to detect the AP Wired Mac address? If I have 2 different APs on different VLANs configured as Access Ports. How does 1 AP see the Wired MAC of another AP?

Question on Air Marhsal--> "Rogue SSID" --> Seen on LAN I get that the BSSID is broadcasted over the air, but I'm curious about how Meraki APs are able to see the wired MAC of the AP to find out of this AP is connected on the same LAN?

Do you think it's related to WPA3? Does the issue doesn't get replicated when using WPA2 in the same environment?

Thank you for the response. I have iPhone 14 and from what I checked it supports all the features. Also if it didn't support the wpa3, why it would connect in the first place?

I am encountering an issue with my SSID, which has WPA3 Personal enabled with RADIUS for employee authentication. When attempting to connect my iPhone, I receive an error message stating, "Can't connect to this SSID." However, after forgetting the network and attempting to reconnect, it prompts me for my credentials, and then it successfully connects. I have the SSID set to Auto-Join, but it eventually disconnects on its own. When I click on the SSID again to reconnect, the same cycle repeats with the "Can't connect to this SSID" error. To establish a connection, I must manually click "Join this network." which then prompts me to enter my username/password again. I've observed this issue on two test devices, an iPhone and an Android device, both of which support WPA3 and are running the latest firmware. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

Hey there, has anyone here tried using WPA3 with a Radius server? If you have, did you encounter any significant issues? We're planning to deploy Meraki APs and are curious whether it's advisable to continue with WPA2 or use WPA3 for Active Directory-based authentication. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I'd love to but our Acceptable use policy is very long. So it will look very ugly on the main page.

Hey, does anyone have experience with adding a hyperlink to a consent message? I've duplicated the Modern Splash page, but I'm a bit unsure about where in the code I should make the necessary edits. I can use ChatGPT to generate the HTML, but could someone please guide me on where to place these scripts?

what about a "Stable release candidate" like MR 29.7? Or is just best to stick with Stable versions only?

New to Meraki. we are about to start the Meraki AP rollout soon. I upgraded the APs to beta 30.5. Usually, I avoid betas but noticed one of the Bug fixes stated "Intermittent connectivity loss for Windows client devices". Since we haven't previously used Meraki in our environment, I'm uncertain about the severity of this Windows intermittent connectivity problem. Given that 99% of our users are on Windows, I'm concerned about the potential impact, especially with the introduction of new APs. I'm seeking insights into this specific bug. Would it be advisable to avoid the beta version and instead opt for MR 29.7 (Stable release candidate)?"
