It seems that the roaming occurs when a channel change event happens. The device roams to an access point quite far away, then disconnects due to "client not responding", and finally re-associates to closest access point. This isn't related to the long "excess frame loss" thread with 29.x firmware. We are still on 28.7.

Hey Tim, Well first off, my main gripe is that this simple functionality should be build into Meraki dashboard. Sadly, this is another example of TAC can do it but admins cannot (like also see switch/AP uptime). We had a firmware issue with AP slowness over time and rebooting AP's in each network was the only solution. Finally, a firmware update fixed the issue. That was really the only time we needed to do what your app does. Tough to determine a price tag.

Looks like this still isn't fixed in Ventura 13.1/13.2. I have a Chromebook and an Intel based Macbook Pro next to me that remain connected indefinitely. The M1 Macbook Pro seems to keep roaming to distant AP's randomly.

You would think it would be something as easy as checking multiple boxes (AP's) and issuing a reboot command... lol. Then again, we can't see something as simple as AP uptime or even switch uptime. I've been making these kinds of wishes for years.

Still trying to figure this one out... Many others are complaining in the Apple forums and other sites. This morning my laptop decided to roam several times to other AP's very far away (when I was directly under the AP in room). Tried disabling "Limit IP Address Tracking" in WIFI prefs as suggested in Apple forums. So far my laptop has remained connected for 3 hours. Also set IPv6 as Local Link Only. My co-workers Intel Macbook Pro in same office didn't roam all morning. Also had a Chromebook next to me that stayed connected to same AP all morning too. Time will tell I guess.

So I finally figured out the issue this morning. It was a Realtek driver update via HP Support Assistant. The model laptop is HP ProBook 455R G6. The driver version from Realtek is 2024.10.227.2 and dated 8/18/22. I'm seeing solid stable connectivity and ping times perfect. No more thousands of logs saying client has roamed to AP X every few seconds. Attached screenshot. Prior to this ping times would constantly time out. The laptop has stayed connected for hours since driver update (not seconds like before).

LOL the awful fading blue LED light... All our MR32's are so bad you can't even tell they are on. All our MR33 lights are still bright.

I tested a PC with a realtek adapter just now and connectivity remained solid for over 30 minutes! Didn't have the hundreds of roaming events like before. Looks promising, need to test with more devices.

Also found this interesting.... Bug - AP performance may degrade over time (Wi-Fi 6 APs) is a "known issue" in Firmware 28.7 but "fixed" in 29.2. Guess those with wifi 6 environments should jump to the beta. I'm going to upgrade 201 AP's this evening from 28.6 to 28.7. The majority of the AP's are MR53's. We have only a handful of MR46E at the location. I've also seen that bug with channel 100 utilization specific to MR53.

Hey Brad, All the Meraki AP's in the building are connected to Meraki Switches which I don't believe support HSRP. While I was in the building yesterday I couldn't reproduce the issue. Connected to same AP for hours. So frustrating. Last three times I was at the building the roaming was constant and had to plug in ethernet.

Nah, disabled. I'm literally the only one in the area and it will still roam constantly. I've even tried this when teachers and students weren't in the building.

Definitely just a stationary laptop on a desk. I've been connected to an MR53 here at our High School for hours. The moment I connect to an MR42 the roaming issue happens. I'll probably have to open a case with both Apple and Meraki.

So this is a weird one. I have an elementary school with MR42 and MR46 AP's. I've been using this 2020 M1 Macbook pro and noticed that I cannot keep a connection to an MR42 without the device roaming every minute or so. I'm fine in a room with MR46 AP's. I can go to our High School and be connected to a single MR53 for hours without roaming. All my networks are running firmware 28.6. Rebooting the AP's hasn't helped. On my Intel 2017 Macbook Pro there are no issues. Going to open a case with Meraki on Friday. I think it has something to do with the M1 wireless chipset and firmware 28.6. Well it's been over a month and I've tested this on MR53 and MR42 AP's... no degraded performance. I'm considering this resolved with 28.6. Unfortunately, it took Meraki two years to fix LOL.

I originally thought so. The MR33 is technically a wifi 5 wave 2 AP and isn't affected by the bug (per support). I asked if this ADDBA request bug fix was related to this case and they weren't sure. All I got was the following: Advised customer that from the internal issue tracking information, NSE is able to confirm that the development team mentioned the fix is included in the MR28.6 firmware version.

Stable release candidate MR 28.6 released today. Discussed with support and this specific bug wasn't mentioned in the changelog which annoys me. They assured me it was fixed. I just updated 201 AP's in my High School. Wireless firmware versions MR 28.6 changelog Important note Meraki APs use UDP port 7351 for cloud communication and TCP ports 80 and 443 for backup communications when running MR 27 and older firmware. When running MR 28 firmware, Meraki APs will now use TCP port 443 as the primary means for cloud connectivity. In order to maintain connectivity to the Meraki cloud on MR 28+ ensure that TCP port 443 is allowed to communicate with 209.206.48.0/20 on firewalls that are deployed upstream of your Meraki APs. Huge news. My case number for those interested is 07376291 - Throughput and performance issues on APs. We took packet captures and logs on AP (specifically MR53) before and after reboot. There is an internal bug case with Meraki since April 2021. They started developing a fix in August 2021. There is a pre beta release 28.6 that is now available and I'm testing with on an AP in our IT Office. This new custom firmware became available January 13, 2022. Apparently, the issue is fixed. AP Models affected are MR42, MR42E, MR52, MR53, MR53E, MR84. I had a feeling this was the case since I wasn't seeing the issue on our MR32 or MR33 AP's. Fingers crossed!

Well after about a month now looks like our IT AP (the one I connect to and test on) is back to getting poor speeds. I was testing almost daily and getting 100+ Mbps speedtests from local status page. Currently getting 22 Mbps. Back to rebooting AP's. Lovely. This building has 201 MR53 AP's running 28.5.
