Verify speed from ISP

Verify speed from ISP

This may seem silly, but I was wondering if there are any tools or applications that can be used to test or verify connection speed from an ISP. On our network we have a 10G connection from our ISP, but I have no way of proving that we are getting the agreed upon speed.

There are many tools available like

hope it helps

Those only test speed based on the client. I am looking for something that can tell me the speed to a router/gateway from the ISP. I need to test the WAN connection speed.

You just have a sinlge 10Gb wan connection ?

Your provider probably have hardware tools(from viavi or something else)they can use  to verify speeds between the isp  core and your connection. (If you pay them..)

If you don't mind some downtime, you could unplug your MX from the gateway and run a with a laptop plugged directly into the gateway.

@Johnlee3 what MX do you have connected to the line, the MX450 goes up to 6Gbps so that will be your actual limit, or do you have a different vendor's firewall?

If you want to check the actual circuit capacity then use iperf3.  You need your ISP to run it on a server at their end, and you need to run it on a server at your end.  Both ends should ideally plug directly into the fibre.

Note you are unlikely to be able to generate 10Gbe of traffic with a notebook.  They just don't have enough punch.  Typically you'll need a server-class machine.

I guess you could try creating an iperf cluster using a number of notebooks and running the tests in parallel.

It will probably be cheaper to hire a DDOS service.
