Strange on the LAN ports setup as trunk ports we have no issues. Only the SFP's and not all of them. Just put in brand new SFP's that are supposed to be compatible with the Meraki MS lineup but same issue. ... View more

MS250 Discards on Trunk Ports

Hi Everyone. Quick overview of our environment. Have an MX250 with dual uplinks. Dedicated fiber and broadband. Within the last few months we've replaced our older Catalyst switches with MS250's. We're currently trunking from each switch individually directly to the MX with ADDON MA-SFP-1GB-SX-AO. We use SolarWinds for additional monitoring and have been seeing discards in SW on the trunk ports of the MS's. The traffic on these trunk ports rarely ever goes above 10mbps.   We have a few other division offices utilizing MS250's where we have a single LAN port setup to trunk directly to MX and have no issues with discards.   Could these be a cosmetic issue with something SolarWinds is reporting as a discard on the SFP ports? ... MX Traffic Shaping Priority

Hi All. Quick question regarding traffic shaping priority. When default traffic shaping rules are enabled, do these rules apply first before a custom traffic shaping rule is created even as a high priority?   We would like to send all VoIP and Video Conferencing as EF but if default rules are being applied first, the Webex/Skype/Teams traffic may be sending AF41 instead. ... Hi Bruce. We do have a rule in place on our Firewall to NAT our MPLS subnets at our Meraki sites to a public IP from ATT.   MPLS IP - 172.17.250.X will NAT to 12.0.152.X   We don't see any traffic from the copier itself however hitting the Firewall. It shouldn't when scanning to a network folder or e-mail. ... View more

Unable to Scan over ATT MPLS on Meraki MX68W

Hi everyone. We're running into an issue since upgrading our old Cisco 2911 router to a Meraki MX68W at a divisional office. We currently have both the MPLS and Comcast connections being used as uplinks. At the moment, the MPLS is the primary connection until we have the Comcast bandwidth upgraded. We're unable to scan to e-mail or folder on a Ricoh copier over the MPLS connection but it works just fine over Comcast. Before we upgraded the 2911, we did not have any scanning issues so it doesn't appear ports 25 or 445 should be blocked. I didn't see any hits on our firewall considering this traffic should all be internal and the only thing I can think of that changed from a routing perspective at this site is the removal of BGP and use of static routes on our WAN and core switches.   I do have case open with Meraki support but wanted to post something here as well in case someone has come across something similar.   Error Message:   CONNECTION_FAILED at com.ricoh.xgp.sdip.application.service.project.ProjectService.loadProjectMetadata(Unknown Source)   Response from Ricoh:   It looks like smtp relay isn’t working or it is being blocked we are not able to connect to the SMTP server and that is why you are getting this message it ping but will not allow any email to send I tried it on the device as well without using SLNX and I see same error message SMTPC which means closed connection and will not allow to send message. ... Re: Understanding Native VLAN Configuration

Figured it out. The switches I was passing vlan 10 on weren't actually trunked directly (this is a remote location). I did a sh cdp neighbor and realized which switches were connected to each other. I added vlan 10 to all switches to pass that traffic and all servers came up. ... View more

Understanding Native VLAN Configuration

Thank you in advance for any suggestions! Fairly new to Meraki so bare with me 🙂 Our company has a simple network environment throughout our divisions. We have a data vlan and a voice vlan for 95% of our divisional offices. We've been replacing our old Edge routers with MX appliances but have kept our CAT 3560 and 3750 switches. For our Meraki config, we have our trunk port to first switch with the native vlan being the data vlan. The daisy chained switch trunk ports also have the native vlan assigned and all has worked well with data and voice. I've recently added an additional data/server vlan at one of our offices and only servers connected to the first switch will connect to the network. The switches daisy chained off the first switch will show unidentified network on our servers. From the MX, I can only ping the server vlan interface IP from the first switch but not any of the other switches in the environment. I'm wondering if this is as simple as a missing route?   Example config:   Servers - VLAN 10 Data - VLAN 11 Voice - VLAN 20   Meraki MX - LAN port 3 set as trunk with native VLAN 11   interface GigabitEthernet1/0/48 description Meraki Trunk Port switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q switchport trunk native vlan 11 switchport mode trunk ... Re: Is it possible to setup Meraki AP on Access Port??

Thank you Bruce. We're currently using VTP transparent mode on all switches so it should be as simple as adding the Wireless VLAN to all switches. We're also not restricting any VLAN's on the trunk ports between switches.   I plan to change the config in the office which has the AP's setup as trunk ports and turn them into access ports. This way we can keep a standard going forward as we currently use access ports for our Aruba AP's. ... View more

The plan would be to add an additional Wireless VLAN (200) to the MX and switches to keep wireless on a different subnet. So would the config for the Meraki AP be as simple as the following:   interface GigabitEthernet1/0/1 description Port Ready for Meraki AP switchport access vlan 200 switchport mode access   Also, does this mean the AP's themselves in the dashboard would need to be statically assigned an IP within that Wireless VLAN as well? In the office that currently has the Meraki AP's set as trunk ports, we assign the AP an IP within the Data VLAN but tag the traffic for the Wireless VLAN. ... View more

All 20+ switches in our HQ would need to be configured for that new management VLAN then correct? Currently, we have these switches daisy chained to one another as just switchport mode trunk and switchport mode encapsulation dot1q. All trunk ports would then need the native VLAN added to it as well.   A thought I had was to just take the specific 3750 that connects all AP's and setup an additional trunk port with native VLAN and connect to another port on the MX also set as a trunk port with native VLAN. This way we can leave the current config as is and not have to add config to all the additional switches. Thoughts? ... View more

Is it possible to setup Meraki AP on Access Port??

Hi All. Brand new to the forums as this is my first post. Our company has Meraki MX appliances setup at 3 divisional offices at the moment. Two being MX67's and one being an MX100. Our switching environment still consists of Catalyst 3750's and 3560's. All divisions are setup with a Data VLAN and a Voice VLAN. In our one office that is using an MX67, we have three MR52's configured on trunk ports and everything is working just fine. Our MX is connected to our 3750 in that office as a trunk port with native VLAN 165.   In this example, Data is 165, Voice is 65, and Wireless is 200.   interface GigabitEthernet1/0/1 description Port Ready for Meraki AP switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q switchport trunk native vlan 165 switchport trunk allowed vlan 65,165,200 switchport mode trunk     In our division office that is using the MX100, we have two separate racks for Data switches and Voice switches. This is simply because the cubicles are wired with 2 jacks. We currently have the main Data switch plugged into the MX as an access port and same goes for the main Voice switch. All is working well currently but we're looking to replace our current Aruba AP's with Meraki AP's. This is where I'm a little concerned on how the Meraki AP's will have to be configured on the switchports and if our configuration will have to slightly change. We're not using any native VLAN at the moment.   Any help would be appreciated. ... View more
