What about when there is no internal DNS? What about if it is a non-Windows environment? What about devices that can't register in internal DNS (printers, cameras, scanners, etc)?

Hey zgrounds, We recently implemented Meraki MR46's in our K12 environment over the summer and one of our middle schools is being affected by this pretty bad. I am really curious to know if you are still running your AP's on firmware version 28.3 and 28.4 or if you have since upgraded? We're currently on 28.7.1

I'm also interested in a real response as to why this would be difficult to implement or why the mdns client name is some kind of benefit to me. This design limitation really wrecks the "at-a-glance" nature of the interface.

@Saralyn I have also opened a case regarding Camera roles but feel like I should write here ... It would be great that Meraki try to follow a standard concept over all functionalities in the dashboard. One such concept would be - what characters can contain a role name. Standard SAML roles can have spaces - so I have designed all my roles (40+ roles across 10+ orgs) with spaces and had some magic filtering in ADFS. Now when Camera roles were introduced - they don't allow spaces, which makes them useless for me, unless I redesign the naming concept and remove spaces from all role names. So, please look into this and try to follow a standard in the dashboard...

@PhilipDAth is correct on SAML. That would be the easiest way. I just finished setting up some new SAML roles today using G Suite as the IDP. It worked quite well with the new SAML camera roles as well as traditional administrator access.

FYI, it is possible to use the mounting brackets as a template and then get some custom machined bolts, brackets whatever you need. This is what we did for a client.

Any updates on this issue? I have been having this problem on my ms-220s and sure enough tried to update to 10.40 tonight and 1 of the 220s hung. It is not easy for me to get to this switch and rebooting the switch never seems to help. this issue has been going for over a year and still happening? Has anyone found a way to fix this remotely?

Good news ! I did some tests. My issue is completely solved. The very good article sent by @MRCUR did help. https://documentation.meraki.com/MS/Access_Control/Configuring_802.1X_Wired_Authentication_on_a_Windows_7_Client Some improvements could be added to the article : The good old XP (SP3) does work with what is explained for WIN7. The tab "authentication" will not appear, if the service "Wired autoconfig" is not correctly working. Not domain-joined workstations can authenticate with RADIUS. Just need to uncheck "Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any)". PEAP could not work if "Validate server certificate" is checked and Certification Authority is not reachable by workstation. For PEAP, the NPS server needs to have a certificate ; that certificate should be validated by the workstation (such as browser does for HTTPS). Many thanks to community ! I will probably be back for BYOD, Bootstrap Profile, and other interesting subjects.

Try contacting support and see if they can enable that feature for you. Just a thought. Or if you left them DHCP, then you could just add the DNS servers of choice to that DHCP scope.

No one should be using option 5 these days (that was for IEN 116 name servers that pre-date DNS servers). Using the "DNS name servers" is the same as setting DHCP option 6.
