What is the benefit of antenna on the MR46E over the MR46.  

Do the Antenna on MR46E improve range over the MR46?

In terms of benefit the only thing is that the MR46E can be installed outdoors, the performance and functionality compared to the MR46 is the same.

The 46E IS NOT an outdoor AP.

E model requires external antennas.  You can choose from different types that makes this ap better suitable for example : for wall mounting, or for warehouses installation

Mr46 looks better on the ceiling. And is cheaper because you dont have the cost  of external antenna

The benefit is you choose the coverage pattern based on the characteristics of the antenna. It doesn't increase the increase the range per see, rather it transforms/"molds" the available energy into something that is more beneficial for a particular use / coverage case.

If you want specialized coverage with an external antenna indoors, then you need an MR46E.
You could install an MR76 or 86 but that is extra money for the rugged part.
The MR46 is just a high tier AP that sits between MR36 and MR56, so rather in office spaces where general coverage areas are required.

The external antennas are really nice for larger spaces like warehouses or high density locations like auditoriums.
