Organization-wide SSID throttle on SSIDs?

Hi all. I administer a large organization with a few thousand APs ranging from MR33's to MR74's. Previous to this past Friday, the throttling of clients and SSIDs would default to Unlimited and I can adjust from there. As of Friday, all SSIDs and clients at all Networks are capped at 100Mbs. I cannot raise that unless I move to Detailed and manually enter the full wire speed. Even then, I can't tell if it is actually working.

All APs are on 30.6 and I moved one site to 30.7 to test but there was no change. In the past I have caught Meraki engineers using my organization as a test bed, for which they have been told to stop. But just wondering if anyone else has seen this?

For clarification, I don't care that clients are capped at 100Mbs unless I set them lower, I care about the SSID per AP being capped at 100Mbs.

Thanks much!

Yes it does take effect if you save the firewall/shaping page

Then you can see it at the ssid page

@lcoalson - I moved a MR36 from one organization to another MX75 and when I opt to configure SSID1 or SSID2 it lists 100 Mbps however SSID1 and higher show unlimited.  I am not able to make SSID1 or 2 go beyond the 100 Mpbs limitation.

MX75 on MX18.211.2
MR36 on MR30.7

I concur with being limited to 100 Mbps on SSIDs 1-2 even when attempting to configure Per-SSID bandwidth limit.  I will try to configure SSID3 instead to see if it's default listing of Unlimited remains in tact once configured.

Correction: I moved a MR36 from one organization to another MX75 and when I opt to configure SSID1 or SSID2 it lists 100 Mbps however SSID3 and higher show unlimited.

Not sure why it wouldn't allow me to edit initial entry.

And I also checked MR36 uplink and it shows 1Gig to eliminate wiring or uplink speed negotiation.

This sounds like a GUI bug.  I bet if you leave it for a day or two the issue will go away.

Thanks for the response, guys. Good to know I'm not crazy... least not all the time. I put a ticket in to Meraki on Friday so hopefully they have an answer soon.

@lcoalson  have you gotten any response on your support ticket?  If so, was there any explanation?  Asking because all of my MRs (production) have 100mb per-SSID bandwidth limit.  I have had to "manually" put in higher numbers so as to not be limited.

Yes, Meraki support sent me a message last night. Here's the hilarious insight provided...

As checking your network right now, I can see the MX can only have 120Mbps throughput to Meraki cloud server.

From the AP, the throughput is 80-90 Mbps through Meraki cloud.

The LAN connection can be up to 1Gbps, but if the upstream bandwidth to the Internet is 120Mbps only (as per checking the MX), you can not go faster than the limit of your Internet bandwidth in this case.

I responded back with screen shots of the Throttling rule and haven't heard back yet. I have had several speed tests performed at a variety of sites. In each case the throughput is higher than 100Mbs. Which leads me to believe that the GUI is bugged or, worse yet, throttling doesn't work at all.

Jury is still out

Yes - indeed hilarious.  Not buying that logic or explanation either.  This setting is at 100Mbps for every AP in 4 organizations and 11 networks, two of those locations have 2Gig (down) / 1Gig (up) WAN bandwidth.  Neither of those 2 locations are capped at 100Mbps.  This is definitely GUI'd for sure.

And I am getting good WAN results everyday yet one day all SSIDs are limited at 100Mbps?

I ran through a number of my networks today and noted that it is on all SSID slots. Not just 1 and 2. Has to be the dashboard. Hoping it really is just the dashboard, anyway. I have 650 networks and an API won't cut it for the guest SSID, as that varies based on the site client load and WAN speed.

I heard back from Support late last night again.

we have a known bug with the bandwidth limit for the SSID in Firewall and traffic shaping cannot be set to higher than 100Mbps.
Our Dev team is working to resolve this issue from the backend and this could take a few weeks for this to be resolved.

They went on to add -

There is a workaround at the moment, by going to Traffic shaping rules > Select the bandwidth > detail then type in 0 > Save the settings.
After change saved, the bandwidth on the dashboard will still showing 100Mbps but from the backend, the AP will set the bandwidth to unlimited.

So, there it is. For my networks, I'm not going to go through and change anything until I hear complaints about speed. From the testing that has been done so far, it might not even be limiting at all. I will, however, need to watch the Guest SSIDs to ensure those are limiting.

Thanks for all the input, guys!

Thanks for sharing the feedback, it's appreciated @lcoalson

The statement of "a few weeks" went by pretty fast. Looks like it is cleared up on my networks.
