MR28 new acquisition. Slow!

   I recently switched to TELUS Business Internet and received a Fiber modem and a Meraki 28 AP.

   When the installer was here a week ago, we got everything going (supposed to be 1.5Gb speed) but he made a mistake when he created the SSID.  

   I tried to connect with the TELUS connect app, but don't have good credentials.  I then found I could web to and authenticate at https://n88.meraki.com/login/ and see my AP, and access the Wireless Network page.  I changed the SSID there, saved it, but now all I get is like 11 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up.  Not impressed!  Suggestions/Ideas?

This could be happening for a number of reasons, such as network design, data rate settings, or interference.

Thanks for replying... Nothing changed (he says) from before to after changing the SSID and maybe WEP security, and to go from 900 to 10 is a lot of interference!

Your speed is because you are using WEP for authentication. Change to WPA and your issue should be fixed.

WEP is a very old authentication method and is very insecure, you really shouldn't be using it.

Well, I confess that I was surprised that you were using WEP, these days this is very rare, and as @BlakeRichardson said, this is insecure and could perhaps be the cause of the problem, but the truth is that without the details of the other configurations this is nothing more than a guess

As has been said above, don't use WEP. Definitely switch to WPA.

Other than that, check rate limiting on the SSID, and on any upstream, equipment.
If you've got a Meraki full stack environment, I suggest engaging support to check for configuration which may impact the performance.

Still havent been able to figure out how to get the Meraki or Telus Connect app to work on my iPhone 15, authentication issues.  Only with the web GUI can I change a few things, like SSID and security.  I have a call out with TELUS, and just downloaded the Meraki app, which also refuses to let me connect so far.

If you don't have valid credentials for the Meraki app, it's likely that either Telus don't provide you with an actual Meraki Dashboard account, and instead allow basic editing of some settings via their own Dashboard which hooks into Meraki APIs, alternatively they may have added you as an "End Customer" or similar MSP role which again has some limits depending on your MSP.

You'll need to speak with Telus to confirm.

Thanks for that info, Connor.  I have a call out to TELUS Business support, looking for how to make the most of my MR28 and fiber modem.  Asked them for creds to the modem admin page, and more info for exploiting my AP.  Waiting for a call back.

I have multiple security choices with the admin webpage, these being

1. None
2. WPA2
3. WPA1 and WPA2
4. WPA3 Transition Mode
5. WPA3 only

   So seems the logical thing to do is to select the highest security starting at the bottom of this list and moving up until all my devices are able to connect.

   I googled WPA3 Transition mode, think I'm going to try that next.

The only reason I selected WEP is because with my previous Grandstream AP, I started having problems connecting with my Amzon Firesticks, so I thought it might have been because of incompatible security  protocol.  Let me change to WPA now and see what happens (with sppeed and the firestick).  Thanks all for pointing that out.
