Feature Request: The option for timer setting before the AP radio reset.

Feature Request: The option for timer setting before the AP radio reset.

We'd like to have a timer setting to control the AP radio reset threshold, to avoid unplanned WIFI interrupt due to radio reset as result of regulatory domain changing. According to the high available infra model, in some scenarios, since resource limitations we have to set up upstream internet breakout between different country, such as since there's only 1 ZSCALER DC located at Hong Kong, so the backup upstream tunnel will point to the DC which located at another country.

So we would like to have a option to optimize the threshold of radio reset, or maybe a manual setting to turn it off.

The AP will not reset its radio if a regulatory domain mismatch is detected.

This scenario will generate an Alert but not a reset of the radio.

I have a Meraki Case and Meraki engineer feedback as:  The upstream Internet breakout in that location keeps changing between Hong Kong IP addresses (e,g, 165.225.234.208) and Vietnamese IP addresses (e.g. 136.226.240.199). This causes the MRs to reset all radios because the regulatory domain had to change, which is in turn causing the clients to disconnect from MR. I confirmed internally that the radio resets are expected as the regulatory domain change so if you do not want the clients to experience such problems you need to make sure that the upstream internet breakout is not changing between IPs that belong to different countries.

In this case, i hope that we can have a option feature to avoid similar issue in such scenario.

What about if you don't use the Hong Kong DC Zscaler, and use a pair of Zscalers in another country, like Vietnam?

Considering connection performance, the local is better as a primary chosen.

Meanwhile, a few local internet services enabled access control to allow local source only

I am not 100% sure what you are asking, but if you want to prevent the access points from changing frequencies during the working day, you can set the "Busy" hour under Wireless/Radio Settings.

Are you saying you have two Internet breakouts, in different countries.  Sometimes, when the access points are communicating with Meraki, they appear to be located in Hong Kong, and sometimes in another country.

And because of this, the APs think they are suddenly in a different regulatory zone?

I have not tested this case to confirm what will happen.

What you could do is restrict the available channels that can be used in Wireless/Radio Settings to those that are allowed across all of the countries where you have an Internet breakout.

This way, there is no way that a channel will be turned off if the AP suddenly if it finds itself in a different regulatory zone.

Thanks for the comments.

The actually issue is once the APs think the location is changed, that they will auto carry out radio reset action (maybe a reboot) caused wireless clients will lost the WI-FI connection suddenly.

Such as Zscaler SASE solution, due to there's only one Zscaler DC at Hong Kong local, that the secondary internet breakouts only could be located at different country for NLB as well as Failover.
