MR 29.6.1 known issues

Hi Team, 

 

 There is a new firmware released MR 29.6.1 and noticed something scary

"In high capacity wireless networks APs may experience instability when the “Client Balancing” or "Band Steering".

 

1. Is it something we have to worry about before upgrading?

2. What it really means when it mentioned "In high capacity wireless network" 

3. Anyone already upgraded and face any problems?

Probably means high density. 

 

1- Do you have any high density setups ?

2- Can you pilot the firmware in a network before rolling the firmware everywhere ?

 

Always make sure to test the version in a lab / pilote sites before rolling out. You mileage may vary from what people are going to suggest since almost every wireless network & SSIDs are different.

I have mixed office with MR52, MR56 and MR57. What are the configurations that define the High-density setups?

To be fair, we've pretty much always found networks to work better with both client balancing and band steering turned off anyway... Perhaps it is just documented now!

+1 to @cmr - you need good WiFi drivers for these features to work seamlessly.

We experienced this issue in our head office where clients were being roamed between AP's and loosing connection, looks like Meraki have finally acknowledged the issue.

 

We disabled client balancing on all the AP and this issue was resolved.

 

Another factor is wireless drivers can also cause this issue. Intel released some new drivers to resolve this issue

 

The latest Intel drivers for the AX201 wireless chipset has the following fix

 

When connected to certain wireless APs in 802.11ac or 802.11ax mode, network
connectivity loss (Windows System Event ID 5002) might occur after roaming
