Not possible to perform on 2 Meraki MS225-48LP Switches a factory reset

Hi,

We have 2 Meraki MS225-48LP Switches in different Orgs (MS 17.2.1). On both switches, I can't perform a factory reset. After holding the reset button for 10-15 seconds, the LED is still red when I release the button.

https://documentation.meraki.com/General_Administration/Support/Resetting_Cisco_Meraki_Devices_to_Fa...

Is this a hardware issue, or is there another way to reset to factory default settings?

I have access to the local page. Both switches were in a stack and both don't come online in the Meraki Dashboard.

Changes on the local page (e.g. static IP instead of DHCP) have no effect.

Both switches show on the local page that they are part of a Stack, that's the reason, why I want to perform a factory reset.

It seems, that the reset button doesn't work. I performed on other MS and MX a lot of factory resets without any issues, so I suppose that this are 2 faulty switches.

The only way to perform the reset is with the button. Support may be able to guide you through some undocumented other uses of the reset button. I recall some products do certain things if you hold them for even longer, but it  may be necessary to get an RMA.

I suggest you open a support case as the device may require RMA.

I am not a Cisco Meraki employee. My suggestions are based on documentation of Meraki best practices and day-to-day experience.

Please, if this post was useful, leave your kudos and mark it as solved.

Holding the button for a set period should do the trick as per the document you’ve read and shared.

If you have access to the local admin page what’s the issue you’re facing?

Ive had a couple of funnies today whereby config I’ve made in the dashboard hasn’t been correctly pushed to the device.

Worth a call into support

Hello @Holli69,

Has the switch stack been deleted in the Dashboard?

Consider unplugging the device, hitting the reset button 10-15 times (to kill any juice that may be remaining), powering on the devices, and trying another reset.

If the switches are in a stack, perform the reset on the "active" switch.

Also, if the switches are in a stack, consider deleting the stack momentarily (please mind any L3 SVI on the stack).

If you have DHCP available on any other the VLANs, see if the switches can come online using DHCP.

Lastly, consider taking a packet capture on the upstream device if possible. This will show us what traffic patterns (if any) are seen from the switches.
