2 Part stacking question

2 Part stacking question

Part 1: I have a MS225 in use now, two new MS210s and stacking cables. Can I create a stack with all 3 switches and not lose the port config on the one existing switch?

Part 2: I want to have have this stack to have multiple connections to the 2 "Core" Cisco 3850 switches. I assume I would just aggregate several ports as the uplink trunk doing the mirroring this on the "Core" or is there a better way to do this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

note the reply from @DarrenOC that answers question 1, the existing MS225 should keep its config when added to the stack.

@DerikA a when you do create your port channels on the Catalyst side make sure you’re using LACP for the aggregation - that’s the only method that the Meraki switches support.

Hi @DerikA

@as per the below document you can’t physically stack an MS250 and MS210.  This is only possible with MS210 and MS225’s

@DerikA you can bundle connections together for performance and availability and like the 3850s a single port channel can have ports from multiple switches in the stack.

Unfortunately as @DarrenOC said, you cannot stack MS250s and MS210s.

Sorry, I type-o’d the switch types. They are an existing MS225 and two new MS210s. I’m updating the original post.

@DerikA you are all good to go then, we have multiple MS225/MS210 mixed stacks and they work nicely, ours are even connected to 3850 stacks, but we use the 10Gb SFP+ ports as uplinks with STP blocking one port rather than using port channels as we don't need 20Gb throughput.

@cmr OK, will the existing config on the MS225 stay when I create the stack or will I need to program it after making that stack?

@DerikA , all existing switch config will remain. Sounds like you’ve been burnt before by stacking legacy Cisco switches!

Hi @DerikA , then you’re good to go. Stack away.
