I was trying to avoid a wall of text. If you let me know specifically what details might help I can provide.

thanks, but I am trying to figure out why two specific laptops have a consistently high jitter where other laptops in the same environment, on the same AP,s same hardware and drivers, are not getting that issue.

on average about 20. The AP these two users connect to is our reception one so significantly less. When I was doing the tests I think our 3 laptops were the only clients. The AP I am currently connected to on my own laptop is at 44 and my jitter is still averaging about 2 or 3ms. I brought one of their laptops here and they still got 60ish, so their jitter is consistent regardless if there are 3 or 44 clients on the same AP.

Hello, Does anyone have experience with high jitter? I have a couple of users having such a bad time with VOIP we have had to hard wire them in for the time being. When I run speed tests, they each have 50-60 jitter consistently. Oddly, when I put my laptop right next to theirs and run the same test, time is usually below 1, sometimes it jumps to 5 and very occasionally it might get to 20. but theirs is around 60 every single time. We all use the same wifi adaptor with the same driver version. Same version of windows, same network, same AP. Network traffic/usage is not particularly high at the moment. We have 2, 1Gbps internet lines coming in to two MX devices. But I am not sure the network is the issue as it doesn't seem to be effecting me. The jitter they get is consistent no matter where I roam in the building, so its not their local AP which I was originally suspecting (I rebooted it anyway for good measure). Any ideas?

oh these are cool, didnt know this existed. Unfortunately I couldn't find anything related to meraki api but still good for other stuff.

because if the api script is written wrong, it could mix up network id's and apply changes to a completely different network.

aah, the camera in the room is a MV21 so that'll be the issue then i guess. They were relying on the Wi-Fi and when we moved networks they lost it. cheers!

Hello, For purposes of developing API scripts and individuals learning to use the API, it would be a great piece of mind if we could do these things in an environment with no possibility of an accident effecting a live system. Ideally, a separate test organisation would be best however it seems a network doesn't "unlock" certain device related settings until you add a device to the network. For example you cant edit wifi settings until you add at least one MR unit. Is there a way to allow all settings to be available without any equipment? thanks,

Hello, We have multiple sites all over the world. Each site has its own network in our portal. We have a CCTV network with all our cameras and a single sensor. The cameras and sensor are at different physical sites with different Meraki networks (all in the same WAN). I recently started buying and deploying sensors at my local site to test them out. I put them in my sites network to begin with where they connected and worked just fine. There is a camera and a AP in the room, not sure which they use to connect. I realised they would be better in the CCTV network so I could associated cameras, only need one profile etc so I moved them over and they looked ok, but I came back to check them later and apparently they have been offline for 4 hours - cant connect to network. The sensor that was in the CCTV network originally is still fine. Its at another site to the ones I added but it has the same kind of setup - I thought maybe because I moved the sensors to a different network to the AP that was the problem but then that other sensor seems fine and it is in the same situation. I guess because at least the camera is in the same network they are ok? In any case - I factory reset the problem sensors and they still wont connect 😞 any ideas what is wrong?

Its fixed! turns out it was a switchport config issue after all. When the 70 APs were updated, apparently 1 new one was installed and the default VLAN on that switchport was set as the public VLAN instead of the management VLAN is was supposed to. sorting the default vlan fixed the whole thing 😄 thanks for the replies!

The switch ports config is fine. Our factory has about 70 access points and have been running ok for years. When we upgraded the AP's, none of the switches/wiring was changed - literally just swapped the devices. The SSID is tagged to a specific VLAN but that hasn't changed in years. Meraki health doesnt show anything out of the ordinary on that SSID. Some devices have auth and DHCP issues but its about 10 out of 400. WiFi logs during my laptop tests in the location where public failed every time. Red is public SSID yellow is internal SSID Yes using a bridged VLAN The device can see the SSID and has good signal, it just doesnt connect. The device tries until it times out. There was a change the RF profile recently - 2.4Ghz was turned off on the internal SSID (the one that works). There was no change to the public SSID on the profile

cheers, i think I will just go with ANT-25's and add a 27 if the range isnt enough.

hmm - i guess it means there will be more of a dead area directly beneath the antenna. You would have to be further away from it before you get good signal

ah much better image lol - yea so it is how i expected. So a narrower vertical beam provides the extra gain, but the actual area left to right that it covers is more or less the same? So assuming the vertical is enough to hit the ground from 10meter up, then its better to go with ANT-27's in pretty much every case as it has the extra gain?

ah maybe that's were im getting confused - i assumed the horizontal plane was the one that was most relevant. I imagined it was the pattern radiating out in a horizontal wave (left to right so to speak) which would give the area coverage, and vertical was more up and down from the base. Have I got it the wrong way around and the arrow direction is in fact the vertical?

I did a search and that one wasnt in the results for some reason! lol its the exact same question. However, the post that is marked as the answer is just the boiler plate description of the device - "sector is more focused". But if you look at the data sheets....IS it more focused? doesn't look like it.

Hello, I am looking to buy a bunch of antenna for meraki MR 76's but im a little confused as to which to get. I thought that one (sector?) was supposed to be more focused for longer range in a narrower field and the patch was more of a wider spread? But when I look at the coverage patterns int he data sheets, it looks like there's not a lot of difference except maybe the 27 bleeds more signal backwards than the 25? https://meraki.cisco.com/lib/pdf/meraki_datasheet_antenna_dual_band_sector__9dBi_12dBi.pdf https://meraki.cisco.com/product-collateral/ma-ant-25-datasheet/?file The access points will be mounted maybe 10 meters ish high on the side of very large building sides in two scenarios. The first is to cover as much wide open space around the buildings as possible - so an ideal coverage would be 180 degrees and out as far as possible. The second is to throw the signal as far as possible in a particular direction to reach far corners of a yard. I assumed I'd need a mix of both antenna (not mixing on the same AP) but is there much difference? Looking at the patterns, I'm thinking the 27 sector is best for both situations?

one last question - does this mean that if the primary WAN link goes down, it will drop all VPN connections? If so, will they be able to re-connect on the secondary WAN?

ah interesting. both WANs are configured as dynamic. WAN 1 is enabled but not connected. I disabled WAN1 and tried again - same error message.

in the appliance status page I can see WAN2 has the ip next to it with a green active sign. If i go to uplink config the public ip is there again with a different DNS name than the VPN one. Just to see if there was anything on my company laptop that cold be interfering, I grabbed a spare laptop, formatted it - connected to a guest wifi and tried again with nothing installed on the laptop except the VPN client. - I get the exact same message as my company laptop - connection attempt timed out.
