Good $currentdaytimeperiod $community, I am challenged with a very low bandwidth uplink (4Mbps) soon (6Mbps) for a relative large crowd of users 50-100. In my experience you have the productive traffic and the recreational traffic which, surprise, surprise always exceeds the productive flows. In terms of file-sharing (P2P) I already reduced the available traffic to 32Kbit/s to give every interested User a very healing experience. YouTube and such bandwidth hogs have already been shaped down to a "need to flow" basis but the sheer amount of requests still places it on 3rd place. My personal approach, if you stumble across excessive recreational application use, then shape it down and repeat. I am interested in the QoS Part or the whitelist of your network traffic, which protocols and applications do you prefer or give higher priority in your setup? I am not talking about Applications like SAP or Office 365 but the basic Internet Protocols. For example i added ssh and traffic to meraki.com to a "high cue" and wonder which other protocols would you rate as high priority. Does it make senses to add UDP 53 and such basics to a high priority cue or are those implicitly being prioritized by the MX OS? Cheers and thanks for reading. Roble

Hey Adam, I am waiting for the ability to load balance my traffic over a "cheaper" LTE Uplink and send the critical traffic over the symmetric WiMAX Uplink, without integrating a second device. Cheers Roble

Hey $Community, If i recall correct there is currently no plan to support the Cell, which currently is a failover Solution only, as a third persistent WAN Link, bummer. So the work around either build me Linux PC based Bridge (power consumption too high not an option IMHO) or aim for a dedicated low power consumption device that simply acts as an Ethernet link on one and as LTE Modem on the other side. Any recommendations/experience with this setup/device? To be honest i still don't get it, why the dev team has such a hard time to make WAN2 a Port-N or Cell Feature on the MX, but that's another topic. Cheers Roble

Hey Philip, thanks for your feedback, it really is appreciated. Regarding the SSL part I agree, that it is used for authenticating the validity of the source and making sure your privacy is protected. The CDN part is new to me and of course the sizing is way out of what we need here. The satellite connection part Is probably the best approach for bulk downloads. The latency surely is nothing I would prefer, but if I combine this with loadbalancing and assigning the traffic to different WAN connections, it might actually be the best solution. If the satellite bandwith is accordingly cheaper than our 3Mbps WiMAX Access, this will be the way to go. Thanks for the fast feedback Philip, sounds like if I want to be a 1%er, I’ll have to do it inline, north of the MX then. Some appliances claim that they can cope with the dynamics of modern CDN's, YouTube and such. Breaking up the ssl traffic with an intermittent device, could be solution then if i recall correct. Cheers $community, I am Roble, originating from Germany, been working in IT since 1996, still equipped with an ICQ Number (6 digits), grown up with Cisco Catalyst, Pix, ASA, FWSM, ACE etc. and changed from "da terminal" to management approx. 8 years ago. Due to recent events I now have to support the family business and dropped out of the IT Industry for a while, been working as business unit director with Logicalis before and also spent some time at big blue. Since March I got the opportunity, to be able to support the management of two Hotels in Tanzania, East Africa and therefore I am having this back to the roots moment, while cleaning up our infrastructure. The network skill I encountered so far circles around the "this has worked all the time, what is /24, Kiefer Sutherland?, internet is dead boss!" kind. My networking skills/certs back in the days CCNA, CCSP (CCNP Security nowadays) and I was a disciple of the church of "anything else then terminal is a gift from Satan!" or "who needs a GUI?". Hi $Community, first post in this board and I hope you guys take it easy on me. My active networking days have been a while but I'll try my luck anyhow. 😉 Situation: Hospitality with an Infrastructure of AP's (not Meraki yet) and an MX64 as perimeter. Uplink Bandwidth currently 3Mbps don't laugh, which I have shaped to kingdom come to get all those Apple/Microsoft update and YouTube addicts under control. I plan to acquire a caching/proxy appliance although I know the MX84 has Squid based Proxy feature integrated, but it currently does not fit our sizing. Question: The almighty $searchegine only points me to a hidden feature within the AP series of Meraki. So far I had no luck in finding a WCCP option within the MX portion of the management page. Is WCCP not integrated in the MX series at all and am i "forced" to configuring it on a bridging device rather than within routing entity? Best Regards and a charming Weekend from Tanzania Roble
