Something I always thought would be nice to have is that the last known connection port was displayed in the dashboard.    Say for instance you have an access point.(or any other port connected device) I can go into that access point and see what switch/port it is connected to. If that AP were to go offline or stop responding for whatever, I no longer have that information available to me. Maybe I want to troubleshoot/cable test the port, reset settings, cycle the port, etc, but I do not remember what the reporting port was it was connected to.     Seems there should be a way that the dashboard record/report the last known attached switchport for a device after it goes offline.    Lot of good ideas getting generated in the thread. Keep it up!  ... View more

I had a client that had the same issue previously. The issue found was a port not being opened on the firewall. Could not export files, and could not view camera feed external to the building. (not direct connection to the camera) I would recommend starting in the same area to verify.     Double check your ports for the camera services on this page:   https://documentation.meraki.com/zGeneral_Administration/Other_Topics/Firewall_Rules_for_Cloud_Connectivity    Good Luck,  Chris ... @DarkStar    Yeah I would not suggest that to be done on every deployment, and in most I let RRM handle things unless I feel like it is not balancing well enough or if it is something like a warehouse that I designed in a specific way with specific power settings and antenna arrays.      In this case, what they were wanting to accomplish lent itself to be a more specific setup and possible solution. It is something to suggest trying for what they were trying to do, but not something necessary in a lot of situations.   Good Luck, Chris ... View more

Just to add as well.. depending on your deployment or surrounding environment dropping your 5Ghz channel width from 80Mhz down to 40 or 20 Mhz could be something to address as well in high density areas to provide better channel re-use and decrease channel overlap/co-channel interference.   In some situations lowering 2.4Ghz radios to lower powers or in some cases disabling 2.4 radios in some areas is required to lower the co-channel interference/overlap.   Best of Luck, Chris ...        There are lot of things that can go into why you are seeing issues. A site survey is going to be able to take measurements of your wireless setup to help determine if you have proper wireless coverage, too much channel overlap, along with some other information as well.     What is the issues that you are experiencing on the wireless? Is it primarily 2.4Ghz? 5Ghz? Either band?  What is some of the background on the experiences that have been seen and the troubleshooting that has been done to this point?   Thanks, Chris ... Yeah this is something that could be applied in the same way on those APs as well. That is actually something that you see done in some of those scenarios... depending on the layout and situation. A combination of directed antenna focus and set power settings. I think there are a lot of methods in large venue type environments... as usual with wireless it is going to vary from one thing to the next. ... View more

Well I think that typically this type of scenario really relies on a good RRM althorithm to help balance these off areas in a time of failure. For instance if you Odd AP switch goes offline leaving the Evens online the idea would be for the surrounding Even APs to bump up power to help fill in the gaps. Depending on spacing this may or may not cover everything.      Unfortunately I have not seen as much consistancy on the Meraki RRM as say the Cisco side. With that said, it is much more improved over where it was a few years back, but still needs to have some improvements to work more reliably for this kind of thing.    How are your devices designed to connect? Are they connecting on either 2.4 or 5Ghz bands or do you have it designed to operate on the 5Ghz band only? If you had it setup to the 5Ghz band only you could deploy either 40Mhz wide channels or even 20Mhz wide channels (if necessary, depending on channel overlap) and you could hardset the channels and powers on your APs. You could set the powers to provide the necessary overlap that you are looking for in this manor so if a switch is lost the power will already be there. This of course would take a bit of testing and tweaking to optimize it for your situation, but it maybe one way to ensure the redundancy that you are trying to design for.     I realize hardsetting those channels and powers, might not sound appealing initially, but in some circumstances it can still be the way to go when trying to hit certain objectives such as yours.   Good Luck, Chris ... As BHC already pointed out... that is really not a recommended way to deploy wireless on the 2.4 frequency. Typically most systems (especially enterprise level wireless systems) will not allow you to make that change. I know I have seen it in my neighborhood with people and their Comcast wireless out there chewing up 40Mhz wide, and it baffles me that they will allow that to happen.     Is there some specific reason that you are looking to do this?   Best of Luck, Chris ...
