if i'm overrunning the buffer on the MX then it's likely only speedtest that suffers this so far. I need to try something like dropbox, frame.io or similar on trying to saturate the upload link and if it takes a hit on it as well.

I can understand this situation but it seems like the MX appliance should have some form of flow control? i know it would only affect large flows of traffic in the 10g->1g direction but as access port speeds increase the devices should be a little more intelligent at this. I mean i'd like to have my inter-vlan traffic processed at 10g, but in order to make sure my internet upload speed isn't impacted, I drop my switch uplink to 1g. I know that not a lot of traffic saturates links so its only those few traffic types that might hit this and speedtest is not a real world app. I need to see if I can test with dropbox, frame.io and any other service that might push the data rates on the upload side.

I've noticed this problem for some time and haven't been able to figure it out. I have an MS425 stack that is uplinked to a MX105 appliance. The MX105 has a copper 1g uplink to Internet. If I use a 1GBASET uplink from the MS425's to the MX my upload/download speed to internet is as expected 940/940. But if I use a 10g DAC to connect the MS425's to the MX I get 940 download, but only about 500 upload (using speedtest). I've tried multiple DAC cables. Other than swapping the uplink cable/speed, everything else is the same. Any reason why this is or how to solve? i'd prefer to use the 10g DAC for uplink but not at internet throughput cost. I can confirm that the Netgear GS108Tv2/v3 does not have EEE(Energy Efficient Ethernet) enabled by default and has not given us flapping as an upstream switch to a MX appliance. I saw the issue on the Cisco CBS-250 8 Port switch (similar size/features as GS108T), which has EEE enabled by default. I have since disabled it and it appears the flapping problem is gone now. It just means they have to be configured to disable EEE before using upstream of a MX.

Good suggestion! But the load on these MX’s is next to nothing many times. And I can clearly see the behavior disappear when replacing upstream switch. But good to know. There is no other way to detect a crash/reboot without opening a ticket?

Hi, I've noticed that on some upstream switches to some of my MX appliances(MX75) on the WAN connection I get occasional "Ethernet port carrier change" events and notice that there is a definite disconnect and reconnect. Usually its only for 5-30 seconds and can go hours without one and then have many. I know many posts say to check cabling but with the same exact cabling i can swap out the switch and it completely disappears. It was a little ironic when i first noticed it was when I was using some 8 port Cisco SBS switches. I have found that the Netgear GS108T seem to be most reliable and doesn't exhibit this problem. I recently saw the problem with a small 8 port HP switch as well. Since it doesn't appear to be cabling related I wanted to find out if anyone else has seen this as well? I can open a support ticket and have them investigate as to maybe more details if needed. Just thought i'd ask here first. Thanks

Thanks Brandon! I figured that might work, and I think that coupled with the autoconfig address it makes it a bit more "dark/dry" to Meraki.

All the ports would be on the MS or multiple MS's. So it doesn't really need to traverse the MX

Hi, Maybe a silly question but I am trying to accomplish a "dry" VLAN on a Meraki MX/MS setup. By Dry I mean i'd like to assign ports to a VLAN and have traffic pass between those ports and devices connected to them but was hoping to not have to set an MX IP address or address scope. Essentially having no interaction with Meraki MX, just a virtual cable if you will. Regards, -m
