Auto-VPN Failover Times w/ VIP and Without

by TimBecker in Security / SD-WAN

Hello there fellow Meraki Colleagues,   I am in the middle of an SD-WAN Deployment for a client. They will be installing two MX250's in HA. Their only use will be site-to-site branch communication via Auto-VPN/SD-WAN.   We recently learned that the client only has two public IP Addresses available for the HA Pair. I know this will still technically work, but using a 3rd VIP is certainly preferred for smoother failover.    Does anyone have any experience with the speed of failover when you're using a VIP vs Not? Meraki documentation basically just says "it's faster"... but no real numbers or descriptive insights. Has anyone compared with and without? In this situation we there will be around 6 remote sites communicating over the Auto-VPN. I assume without the VIP those VPN Tunnels will get torn down upon failure, and have to be rebuilt with the other MX.   Anyone have any experience with this? Is it a pretty dramatic difference?    Appreciate your input!  Thanks. ... View more

Re: Beta Customers Needed - Trusted Access for Android devices

Hi All,   I just filled out the form here- this morning I've been digging into trusted access with android to try to get it working on my home network. I was anxious to give it a shot when it was first released, but I don't have any iOS devices! So naturally I was anxious to give this a shot.   Everything has been pretty smooth sailing for me so far... but I seem to be getting a little hung up on installing the wireless profile with certificate on my Pixel 4 XL. I downloaded the trusted access app from the play store... get logged in and hooked up, but when it doesn't seem to fully install the wlan profile, or I just don't know what options to choose- I imagine the average user wouldn't either.   Am I missing something simple, is the trusted access app supposed to do this part for me?   UPDATE: I actually just figured this out. It seems like a quirk in Android that I don't really understand. After I get logged into the trusted access app and the profile is applied, when you click on the SSID to connect, for some reason it takes me to the settings page and the "connect" option is grayed out, as you can see in my screenshot. BUT, if I cancel out of that and long press on the SSID then choose "Connect", it connects right up, no problems. I just tried forgetting the SSID and reapplying the wlan profile- same exact thing. I had to long press on the SSID and then hit connect.Seems very odd- like android thinks that the information is incomplete. It is strange though that when I dig into the settings, it doesn't seem to list the Certificate or anything, and won't let me save any changes.... but- it works?   ... View more

Hey Everyone,    I am trying to dip my toe into working with Meraki API's to collect data or even maybe make some changes. I see the value and potential in it, but haven't really broken through that barrier to entry yet. I took several programming classes in college and high school, but no real experience working with API's or Python specifically.    Does anyone have any good resources that they could refer me to to getting started with this kind of stuff? I have a Meraki Lab at home, and would love to be able to play around with that setup, just getting familiar with the connections and work flows. I really learn well from video/example formats. I tend to learn best by doing.    Really appreciate any suggestions you can offer me!    Thanks! ... View more
