Thanks for the support on this. It looks like it may have been my impatience. I unplugged everything, changed all the ports, rebooted the switch, and then plugged all the cameras back in one by one and I got the outcome I needed. I am still having some interesting VLAN challenges but I suspect its my general knowledge of how VLANs work. Again, appreciate the help!  ... View more

I'm trying to figure out what is going on now. I have all my cameras plugged into a MS390 with port 1 as the uplink port to a MX250 (Port 3). Both are VLAN 1 and set as Trunk ports. My cameras were plugged into various ports on the MS390 that were all set to DHCP in VLAN1 also set as Trunk ports. I know thats not best practice. I just wanted to get all the cameras cabled and mounted so I figured I'd go back and change it later. I have VLAN 100 on my MX250 that is also set to DHCP. I changed ports 25-36 to VLAN100 access ports. I plugged a few cameras into the new VLAN 100 ports and there was some interesting behavior.    First, the cameras were still reachable even though the port was VLAN 100 and the IP address of the camera was still showing as an IP in VLAN1. Then the dashboard shows my MS390 as being unreachable, but I could still access the cameras that were plugged into it. I'm trying to work through some of this now. Even when I unplug everything, reboot the switch, and only plug in the uplink port, the MS390 will just alternate lights and not connect.  ... View more

New IP assignment - MV Cameras

Hey Everyone. I have been trying to organize my network to follow best practices since it's growing. When I initially deployed my MV cameras they were all in the same VLAN and pulled a DHCP address. Now I'm trying to go back and move all of them to a separate VLAN and assign static IPs. I cannot get them to release their original IP addresses and grab the new static one.    I have tried rebooting, moving ports, etc. They just want to hold onto their original IP address. Any ideas on how to force the MV cameras to ask for a new IP address? ... View more

I have a very similar issue. I have a MS220 (Non-POE) with a MR42 using an external POE injector. The exact same problem is occurring and its driving me crazy. The AP will start to reboot randomly and when I check the event logs I see:       Port status change port: 7, old: down, new: 1Gfdx Port STP change Port 7 designated→disabled Port status change port: 7, old: 1Gfdx, new: down   Extremely frustrating.    AP Firmware is  26.6.1 Switch Firmware is 11.31     ... Splash Screen Feedback

I've been experimenting with different marketing tools for a few customers to see what collects the best data and is the easiest to use. I wanted to get the communities feedback, since it's really hard to differentiate the marketing partners. My goal was to get the best analytics data to do target marketing campaigns. The biggest challenge by far was trying to append a user identity to a mac address. For privacy purposes the only way I could accomplish this was social media login. I've tried the following:   Socifi: Super easy to use. I like the idea of how they charge. The splash screen was easy to make and looked good on every device I tested. The drawback was the lack of support for Facebook login. I would assume that would be the most common social media method to use. Cloud4Wi: They give a nice pilot period to test with. I like the dashboard and the customer database. The drawback was on the user experience side. Once I turned it on, everyone stopped using wifi. It was a three step process, which putting myself in the customer shoes, two steps to get on wifi is too many.  Facebook wifi: Obviously the easiest, but jeeze. Facebook gives you zero data. I've been using it for over a month, and every time I click on the "insights" it tells me there is insufficient data.    I'm just curious to hear what has worked for others. Any thoughts? ... Oh man. I did the jerk IT thing. Ask for help and then never respond when I figured out the resolution. Sorry about that. I'm glad you got it to work. I actually shut it back down for a few reasons.    1. I'm not an AWS expert, but man... Security controls are a nightmare. I got it to work by basically turning off as many security measures as I could and granting everything permission. If you know AWS, then it is pretty awesome, but personally, I'm no expert. I can't remember the exact solution, but I think I read a blog post somewhere explaining the regional thing and that did the trick.   2. I wasn't exactly sure what to do with the data that the built in location analytics didn't already do. I guess longer retention rate? I can see this being useful if you were also pulling analytics into the same database from other things and pairing them with the Meraki data. Any other sample use cases would be welcome. This was a great tutorial.    3. Elastisearch is expensive.    Sorry about the late response! ... View more

The scanning API passes the MAC address of BLE and Wireless clients with location, but the location heat map in the dashboard doesn't allow you to see what the actual device MAC is. Are there plans to have the heat map in the dashboard display the MAC similar to the API scanning demo?   http://developers.meraki.com/post/145334587511/scanning-api-demo-now-with-ble   ... Thanks Cory. I got it working. The data is being posted into DynamoDB. The ES with Kibana is a pain and I'm still working through that, but I'm happy I'm collecting the data! Thanks again ... View more

Cory! You're awesome. I was actually considering emailing you, but thought "Nah, he probably won't respond".   First, I love your tutorial. I'm not a developer by trade, but I understand coding. It was very easy to follow. I've been working with Meraki support but it looks like they are kind of blowing me off and telling me to talk to AWS support. All my API gateway logs in AWS are showing that when I execute the URL from the browser, it returns code 200 and the correct validation key. When I execute the URL from the Meraki Dashboard, there is nothing happening on the AWS side. No log created. No API call to the gateway. I'm guessing that means the problem is from the Meraki cloud to the AWS API gateway. It's hard to tell since nothing is being logged on the AWS side.     ... View more

We worked with a federal agency to deploy Meraki MX and MR access points with a 3G/4G modem in countries like Chad, Turkey, Haiti and Ghana in support of the Syrian Refugee Camps. Paper based immigration files would be confiscated at borders. Meraki allowed the agency to send a backpack that extended IT services and security to very remote locations (and I mean VERY. like, no roads or running water).   The different Government agencies would all access their digital immigration applications, not only decreasing the amount of time a refugee must stay in the harsh camp conditions, but also keeping the records secure and allowing the different US agencies to collaborate much easier. The security features of the MX allowed the solution to be approved by some of our very security conscious Government Agencies.   This same project spawned an initiative with a non-profit that focuses on refugee education. The "Meraki in a backpack" solution is being used to bring teachers and students from the US to schools in Ghana via video. Although AMP, ThreatGrid (And don't forget Umbrella/OpenDNS!) are invisible to the students and teachers, It's been very successful so far. It allows us to teach children how to use the internet safely, while keeping them secure.   https://www.refugeeoutreachclub.org/ - If anyone is interested. ... View more

Response other than 200 - scanning API

Hey everyone. I was following the CMX AWS lambda guide - https://github.com/dexterlabora/cmxreceiver-lambda-inline  It looks like everything is all good on the AWS end. If I copy my post URL into the browser, it returns the correct meraki validation key. However, the URL will not validate. I receive a "Response other than 200".  If I check the AWS logs, it looks like the request is never making it to the API gateway. I checked the event logs for my MX64 and OpenDNS to see if the URL was somehow being blocked.    Any recommendations or ideas would really be beneficial. ... View more

I see that it says you need a minimum of 4 APs in a rectangle configuration to accurately track. Does the model matter, or does the model just have to support bluetooth beacons, which I believe is all of the APs at this point. ... View more

I'm actually curious about this too. I have my MR30H acting as a repeater and extending the LAN to a phone via a mesh link. The ports on the MR30H are no problem at all, however I have not tested the uplink port to see if I can connect to the LAN.      Has anyone tested it to see if the " Clients wired directly to Meraki APs" option under general applies to MR30H uplink ports?   ... I've been struggling with this because it's really something I want to implement. It looks like both Ekahau and Aeroscout sold their RTLS units off. Both have very little information on how to obtain, configure and integrate their software with Meraki. I'd love to see this supported natively.  ... View more

Yea, I think I'm going to try a POE injector and if that doesn't work, Ill try the power cube. I'm assuming the MR30H's primary use case was running an MC74 off of the POE port since it's made for hospitality. I'm not sure why I keep running into this issue.    I guess the MR30H isn't really meant to mesh and it's typically hardwired to a switch somewhere..    Either way, I'm getting beaten up by the customer on how the phone never works.  ... MR30H issues with MC74

by LeeVG in Wireless LAN

Question. Does anyone else have issues with the MC74 plugged into the POE port of the MR30H? The problem I'm having is that I have a wireless mesh network, and it looks like if the phone cannot connect to the cloud, it turns off.   That means if the MR30H for some reason loses connectivity to the hub, as it searches to reconnect or rejoin the mesh, the phone turns off which causes the POE port to turn off. That's fine, but everytime this happens I need to log back in and reboot the port manually.   This is driving the customer crazy because they are in a very remote place with terrible coverage (hence using the MC74). Ironically every time their phone is out, they have a hard time calling. ... View more
