lol. Great to hear they're supposedly doing something about this.... One of the reasons I don't often sign in here and there's got to be a good reason to go to the dash is because I like being able to see something other than the meraki dashboard later on in the day.

This is all I'm seeing on the switch sfp port just now. There's also a DOM warning but I think that's because the cable isn't plugged in. From what I can tell this should also be compatible with the SFP port on our MX85. When I check the MX I'm not seeing anything in either SFP port to tell me there's a module plugged in and I can't remember how it's been left.. Maybe the issue is there. It'll have to wait now until I can get access to the comms cabs.

The fibre is OM4 bought in the same batch as others used in patching in our MX (so using the same SFP modules). This is a new office and we're finding it difficult to get access to comms and distribution cabs ahead of time but I'll talk to management. Already tried swapping around the different modules and SFP ports. and also plugging in to different ports in different switches. I'll report back with more details once I get in.

We've got 2 MS250-48LP that are currently stacked. These need to patch to a fibre panel. We've plugged in a Meraki SFP module into front ports but we don't get any signal . I've been reading the docs and I don't see anything that says if the stacking cables are in use then we can't use the fibre ports on the front. But maybe I've missed something?

I solved this issue by moving everything into a new dashboard. Spoke to the resellers/cisco support and we ended up re-licensing everything we retained. Was a bit of a waste of my time. But it seemed to be the simplest solution.

That's the question. HOW do I do that I do that using this splash page? I've been looking around and it seems I would need to deploy a local radius server and use access manager. But 1. Access Manager is in preview and 2. it is VERY clear cisco plan to charge for it.

I'm looking at this for example. what I want is for my users to be able to bring their laptop into the office, and find themselves connected without too much effort. I have all this nifty conditional access policy and MFA capability but there doesn't seem to be a straightforward way to implement it, to control who gets access to my wifi network. I've been playing with the entra id splash page login. This is good as it means we can offload a certain amount of our security to a process we and our already already use. And we wouldn't need to push a wifi profile with a set password. I've noticed a limitation and I can't decide on the best way forward - users can sign up personal devices without issue. We would like to bar users from signing in with their own devices (ie personal laptops, mobile phones) and I can't see a way to do this. Users should use a separate guest network for personal devices. From Meraki we have: MR enterprise licensing and an MX (plus switching) but we're not using SM. From Microsoft we have Office 365 E5 with mobility and security Entra ID P2 licenses. In other words I have Intune, Full Entra with Conditional access. I'm just wondering what others have done. Did you use a Conditional Access policy? And if so how did you set that up?

According to cisco support a complete mess has been made. I was assured that the licenses wouldn't have an impact on co-termination dates but this turns out to be untrue - at least that's what support tell me. There's some soft of unholy mix up between my reseller and cisco going on - with me looking on being told quite a complex story about how licensing is going to work and [essentially] taking flak from senior management because of it.

Hi Ryan, Sorry I thought I'd posted this on Monday - must have forgotten to press reply. This is our current license count At the time of our last license purchase we were using a different firewall. So that is new to the license load. 8 out of our 9 MRs are being returned & retired - swapped out for much newer wifi7 models. The new license we've been sold is: 4x MR - for 3 years 1xMX85 1xMX advanced We're reusing 2x swtiches from our existing network. Our existing MR licenses will terminate Feb 2026. So what happens to the co-termination? The last license end date is as follows:

Hey Guys, I've never got my head around license co-termination. I've received some new devices for a new network. We move one of our offices to a new site in about 2 weeks. We will be using some of the devices on the original site in the new, we will be deploying some new gear (some new APs and a new firewall) and Cisco have asked for for the old APs to be returned. How is co-termination handled in this situation? I have the license keys for the new gear and my understanding is that if I add the new APs to my inventory they APs were about to return will be included in the license termination. I don't want to license the devices that I'm returning at all, nor do I want them to have an affect on the new devices. Yours confused etc...

I think these are the 3 main trends for us: 1. User Experience Good processes, good working and good reationships need a good user experience. Technology should, as much as possible, get out of the way. I'm not talking about a facebook black box approach but a serious appreciation of the needs of others. If we ask the questions the right way, we will get the right data and everyone's experience will be good. 2. Taking privacy and security seriously But that doesn't mean that we don't take people's expectation of privacy less seriously. If our users are going to trust us and our decision making then we need to assure them that we respect them as people. In digital transformation we don't chuck out good practise just because it doesn't meet our design [or corporate] needs, instead we build that in. 3. Collaborative working At the end of it all, this is where we want to be. I'm really serious about collaboration. Whether it's documents, desicion making, relationships as part of our digital transformation we need to learn from each other. Users must feel empowered to come forward with their ideas and make their own decisions, our management need to feel they have the space to lead. If we've done this then our customers can trust us and our digital transformation.

If you are using voice/video sensitive applications over the wireless, then I would disable as it will most likely cause your fast-roaming to not be so fast, dropping voice calls etc. To be honest Nolan this isn't a major issue for us. All that might go over WiFi is the occasional Teams/Skype call. Not much more than that. I would basically just check the power levels, that is usually the reason if an AP is blasting and the others are not. You can change the Indoor Profile for the power level range, in case its still set to default values of 5-30dBm. You might want to close that up to like 11-14dBm for example, or whatever your initial survey results intended for. TBH I can't remember what the initial survey suggested for power levels, I'll tinker and see what works.

My thoughts are speed issues might be related to the amount of clients on AP1 or the traffic on it. 2 things you could try is turn off AP1 and see if the devices connect to the closest AP and experience the same issue, if they do maybe you need to do a new site survey after hours to better determine your AP locations. The other thing would be to check the traffic on the AP1, if there is high Youtube or streaming video traffice, create some shaping rules or find the problem device and see if you can correct it. I couldn't reboot the AP but I do have a MR18 that can be moved around. I simply moved it closer and then watched to see what would happen. I noticed that the number of clients balanced out much more evenly. An annoying thing is that Friday is a quiet day in the office. So I'll probably have to sit on this until next week.

Hi Nolan, Many thanks. This makes much more sense. The APs are all on the default indoor profiles (the same profile throughout). I'll alter these settings and see how that plays out. I designed our deployment when we had a different operating structure so it's not that surprising that we're seeing some strange things happening now. It's been a over a year since our last review. I moved one of our APs closer to AP1 and I've noticed that everything has settled down a bit. We do see some clients connecting with 2.4 and 5ghz. I'll need to figure out who is connecting to what and why. So another question. Reading between the lines are you suggesting I switch off Client Balancing?
