So, I was on Security & SD WAN on one of my sites with an MX, went to a site without an MX and it opened the same MX config page even though there is no MX there. It even let me change settings.   Interesting...   ... View more

Finally made the switch from NAT mode to Bridge 802.11r adaptive for the guest wifi, all association problems stopped as soon as I made the switch. Went from ~25% failing to associate to around ~1% failing.   Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooo   Now my only worry is that I misread that warning stating not to enable 802.11r on bridge mode for security risks.   Since this is for the guest wifi and anyone can get the password that walks up to the front desk, it's not an issue, right?   Any input would be appreciated! ... The problem I’m having in particular is not the roaming but the initial association. Do you think there would be any improvement if I did try the bridge mode or is there something you’re using besides NAT mode that you would recommend? ... View more

I was under the impression this was only an issue if the PSK was something that needed to be secure, it's going to be for guest wifi where guests can just ask what the password is to get in.   From: https://meraki.cisco.com/blog/2018/08/protecting-your-networks-from-the-latest-wpa1-wpa2-psk-vulnerability/   "allowing attackers to obtain the PSK being used for the particular SSID."   What would be the security risk in an isolated bridge mode SSID where the PSK is given out? Sorry if it's a newbie question!   Autumn ... View more

Most compatible iOS SSID configuration

Hey guys,   I know iOS is a pain, plenty of articles asking why they keep deauthenticating on the wireless. As you can see, out of the 5 device types and 26 client devices with issues, only 3 are non iOS:     I've done a little testing on one of my sites to see if I could find the most compatible iOS configuration for dashboard. At this point the guest wifi is in a simple NAT mode.   My plan, if the wireless health doesn't get any better, is to isolate a bridge mode SSID for guest wifi and enable 802.11r adaptive to see if it gets any better. Any thoughts on that? I don't see many incompatible devices on-site and, if it solves the iOS issues, it would be worth it.   I'd like to crowd source some answers. How have you handled iOS devices deauthenticating on the wireless and, if you're not experiencing any issues, what's your setup?   Thanks! Autumn ... View more

After some investigation, the mac book pro's MAC address is matching the MAC of our MX. So there's some bug that's causing the MX to be listed as traffic on the network that's traversing all the VLANs.   Got a case with the Meraki guys to get it taken care of, thanks for all your input everyone!!   -Autumn ... Historical data on APs not loading through Wireless Health

Not sure if this is just affecting me but when I go to the wireless health screen, click on an AP that is having issues, it won't load the historical data.   I've tried multiple APs and multiple browsers, cleared cache & cookies with the same result. I can access the historical data if I go the the APs from the Wireless > AP menu though so it's not major but it is annoying.   This is what it does when I go to it:   I checked the URLs and the wireless health AP link has "-wi" appended to it, when I removed that from the URL the historical data loads.   Anyone else getting this? Couldn't find anything by searching.   -Autumn ... View more

Unfortunately, we can't disable 2.4Ghz at the moment, it's a club in a senior community and they do use legacy devices.   Have you ever had any success manually setting the channels or does the auto channel usually do the job better?   Thanks for your input! ... View more

MR42 with high ping / long mesh APs

by Autumn in Wireless LAN

I have an MR42 that constantly shows high latency even after rebooting the AP and power cycling the port. Cable test shows no issues. Channel config is set to auto.     But when I ping it, to the AP and from the AP to the internet, there's normal latency:   It also shows it meshing with nearby APs but the distance shown is way too high: So if the ping shows low latency, why is the latency to the clients so poor? It's a big place with few neighbors whose signals could interfere and the other APs nearby don't seem to have an issue. (bldg 7 and 1 are connected so it should be connecting to both)   Firmware 26.2   Haven't tried replacing it yet, quite a drive and want to see what the forum knows about it. Glitch or time to replace this AP? ... View more

Thanks!! I'll look into it further. The fact that it's all local traffic is a good hint, thank you.   In your opinion, is it something I should be worried about?   If it's all localized traffic, does that mean it's pulling data from the servers/security cameras?   Could a loop in the network cause something like this?   Any more info is greatly appreciated!   ~Autumn ... I'm a bit new to the Dashboard. I'm not able to click on any ports on the MX100 like I can on the MS350s.   How do you disable a port on a MX100? Console? Local status page?   Also, I'm not sure if I can apply the policy to the user. The user doesn't show up in searches and when I click on the client while on Port 48 it says that the client does not exist.   Is there another way to apply a policy to a user or should I get the 4 IP addresses they are using and make a firewall rule?   Sorry for the basic questions!!   Thanks! ... Ghost client showing on connection from MX100 to MS350

Hi all!   I've got a strange one, there's a client showing up on a connection from my MX100 to a MS350.   It's showing up as a MacBook and it's traversing different VLANS and constantly changing IP addresses between what appears to be 4 different IPs.   When I click on the client for more info it says client not found, can't search using the MAC address, it doesn't appear. It's showing up on port 48 of the MS350 but when I look at the MS350 overview, it says the client is on port 1.   A side note, the MAC address is one digit off from a legitimate MAC address from one of our PCs.   Can anyone shed some light on this or is there a way to block a MAC address through the Dashboard?   Let me know if you need more info!   Thanks!   ~Autumn   *Edit: Forgot to mention, the CDP/LLDP on port 48 of the MS350; it shows it's connected into port 7 of the MX100 but when I go to the MX100 it says port 7 is disconnected.   Not on site right now so I can't check the cabling physically but any ideas for when I get up there to check it out would be helpful.   ...
