Another update, I claimed success to early. It seems if the switch performing the DHCP Relay is also the default route, it will intercept and resend DHCP renewal requests. If I run the DHCP Relay on another switch which is not the default route, everything behaves as normal.

Updated a switch at one site to the 15.9 beta, doesn't exhibit the same issue. The switch isn't attempting to intercept DHCP renewals. Below is the trace on the server. Above the red line is the initial DHCP request being relayed through the switch. Below the line is the renewals coming direct from the client:

Example below. Client (172.21.150.160) sends a renew request direct to the server (10.14.1.30). On the server we see the 4 requests come in. On each request it comes from the client and from the dhcp relay on the meraki switch (172.21.150.254). As the switch request is first, the server is replying to it. This never makes it back to the client. I've done other tests where the request from the client does manage to beat the request from the relay and it is returned to the client as expected.

Has anyone encountered DHCP relay issues? Running mostly 225's and 250's with DHCP relay across our WAN, latest stable firmware (14.32). It seems that when clients do a renewal request, which is unicast to the DHCP server, the switches are intercepting this and sending a second relay request to the DHCP server. The requests from the meraki relay generally hits first, so it is the one that the server replies to. Unfortunately the switch isn't then forwarding this onto the client, so the client gets a timeout error. Happening on both windows clients and cisco phones. Repeatable every time and easily viewed with wireshark. As a test I configured a linux box with dhcp relay on one vlan and it operates as you would expect, only relay's dhcp discover broadcast traffic.

"Navigate to Organization>Settings" You sure this is your account password and not SNMPv3 password? Personally, it seems to be a strange way for firefox to be wanting to save passwords, every other system I've used only triggers on a form submit. I wouldn't say it in inherently insecure, as the pages have a 'show key' button anyhow, unless it is showing the password when someone doesn't have the 'show key' button.

It'll be a 100mbit connection. 1st and 2nd pair are data and are tested. 3rd pair is for poe and is tested. 4th pair ... specs says it can be used for poe so not sure. I don't have a switch with a 100mbit PoE device that isn't affected by the 12.14 bug to test on 🙂

I've had that, or something very similar to that before after a firmware upgrade. No noticeable issues that night after the update but the next day every time our incremental backup kicked off the network ground to a halt. Had to power down the entire stack and power back up one at a time.

I had an interesting experience... Previous firmware was back in the 10.x due to failures at the last firmware attempt. Went to 12.14 after many weeks of me cancelling automated update windows. Started the usual staged rollout, set to deploy to my test switches first... it did the entire network all at once... in the middle of the day... As expected after the restart the L3 stack of MS250's couldn't decide who was master and randomly decided if it would route or give TTL expired errors. Called support with their suggestion being a hard reboot of the stack. Not the first time I've had issues updating this L3 stack and routing post reboot. End result is I've ditched the stack to save my sanity.

What phones are they? That seems like an awfully large power draw for IP Phones. You might need to go to a 48 port FP model.

I had half our wifi phones drop offline the morning after the upgrade. Rolled back and figured I would wait for .2 before taking another look. Never investigated the issue but DHCP could have been one of the causes.

I could be way off the mark here but I have a feeling if the laptop had already connected prior to the policy being in place, it'll continue to connect. The policy will only apply for new devices it hasn't seen before.

So my next lot of grief with the 225 switches... I've now had my second PoE failure on the 24 port model. All PoE devices lose power, and in the dashboard it shows the power icon but network disconnected. Cycling does nothing. Give the switch a hard reboot and PoE is non existant. Doesn't even show under the 'Power' tab. Anyone else experiencing issues or am I just having a run of bad luck?

If they are replacing with MS250's I can see this causing issues for those stacking with other 225's or 210's, as I don't believe they are compatible.

Looks like we finally got an answer! Cisco Meraki has identified an issue related to a fan component in the MS225-48LP, MS225-48FP, MS210-48LP, and MS210-48FP switch models, which may affect their long-term reliability. We want you to have the best experience with our devices, so we will send you a free, redesigned, replacement switch. This new switch offers a more powerful, but quieter fan. The new switches will begin shipping in October. We are continually monitoring your switches and will notify you if we see a high-temperature alert, which is an early symptom of a fan issue. In the meantime we can offer an interim software mitigation that can significantly reduce the likelihood of device failure for devices that have not had a high-temperature alert by increasing the operating speed of the fan. This mitigation requires both a firmware upgrade to MS 10.34 and above, and opening a support ticket. The tradeoff is that this mitigation will increase the perceived fan noise by approximately 40%.

Just purchased another 2 of these on the assumption that the fan issues were rectified. Had a few fail that were purchased some time ago, and Meraki refuse to pro-actively replace the others that were in the same batch. Have we been replacing faulty units with other faulty units?

So one of the switches failed to download the firmware, still can't work out why. Due to this, it stops the entire staging process leaving the upgrade in limbo. Only suggestion was a rollback and attempt again. I can't say this is a good solution if you get most of the way through an upgrade to fail on the last few switches.
