Do you have the wireless profile set to 20MHz channel width for 5GHz, or are you using 2.4GHz? Do you have the AP power levels set to automatic, or are they manually set?

As a like for like I'd go with an MS130-8 model. You could upgrade to the MS130-8X if you want the possibility of adaptive policy in the future. In reality any Meraki switch can be a DMZ switch as long as you give it access to the Meraki cloud for management and updates. The only place I personally don't use Meraki switches is on the outside of the firewall where ISP connections need splitting to one or more devices. I would always recommend using either an unmanaged switch, or one with out of band management in that location. Cisco make many small cheap switches for that requirement.

As I understand it, Cisco firewalls apply the geo blocking to traffic passing trough them, not traffic passing to them. Therefore the IDS/IPS will see the traffic, even if it can't go anywhere. At a recent job, I placed a pair of Cisco firewalls being used as VPN concentrators, behind another pair that are the main edge devices with a geoblocking rule on them. This was so that the blocked countries could not attack the VPNs so easily. It does seem to have worked and the attacks have all but stopped now.

That 2 hour loss sounds like the spare may not have properly taken the existing firmware version. Perform a factory reset on it and it should connect to the cloud and set itself up again. I'd recommend doing this in a maintenance window, just in case.

A new early access feature has arrived where you can bring users together across networks, unfortunately I cannot find any documentation on it and this is what I see when enabling it: The link to Entra ID looks interesting, but the read our documentation link doesn't go anywhere yet...

@BrianDipaolo I'm guessing that you think it is related to STP as there is an event log alongside the port up down? If so, that is totally normal and the STP log is a result of the port going down and up. What switches do you have and what version of the Meraki firmware are they running? On the NVRs or cameras (I'm not sure which you say are going down), are there any power saving modes like Energy Efficient Ethernet? If so try disabling them.

@RichardE if they are on different networks, you could try reverting one to the previous version to see if 30.7 is the cause. If the dashboard doesn't let you go back, support can do it for you.

Normally the MX continues to work from the time you schedule the upgrade, through the download and install and only stops for the reboot. I think it's the install part where it will pass traffic but might misclassify it.

I'm guessing the traffic classification engine changed and while it updates, it might not work. Therefore people could visit sites that are blocked or similar, but just for the few minutes the upgrade takes.

Totally agree with you there @thomasthomsen, fixed channel width is the way to go and invariably in any vaguely dense environment it is best fixed at 20MHz to maximise the number of non interfering channels. In low density environments you can use 40MHz+
