Go and sign up for a trial account at hamina.com - you'll be able to upload a map and mount a virtual AP with whatever antenna you like.

Point-to-point links can work over many miles. Clients will always be the limiting factor.

This is very similar to asking ‘how long is a piece of string’. In theory, there is no limit… But in reality, it's about the clients capabilities and how well you need them to work. The AP will always out perform your clients (because, bigger antennas)

Yeah, sounds like a timeout on your RADIUS server. You can increase the time out… have you tried using a PSK or enabling 802.11r?

Are you looking to do a wireless bridge or serve clients? If it's serving clients... It's probably better to ask how far away can the clients reliably (and what does that mean for your specific use case) communicate.

Ports still have to be open on whatever firewall you have and access to the IP unrestricted

The best thing to do is create a 5 GHz only network. That way clients capable of using 5 GHz can only use 5 GHz. I'd keep 2.4 GHz for IoT devices only (things that don't need to use real-time applications)

You should also check out something like private 5G from Celona… what's great about Celona is that it'll plug directly into your enterprise network.

The best way to test how a device will roam (between APs and cellular) is by using a bit of software called nOversight - it works by pulling the logs directly off of the iPhone. It's best using macOS connected to an iPhone but there is also an iOS app that you can use.

@This2shallpass - you may have too many SSIDs too… ideally you’d top out at 3 per band. It might just be that the 2.4 GHz band is too congested.

Why have a splash page at all? The other thing I’ve done with these room displays is create a hidden 2.4 GHz only SSID. That worked well

There's only a difference in WPA2/3 when you use a PSK/passphrase - SAE is the difference.

I haven't tested it yet but I'd be surprised if clients that are capable of WPA2 couldn't do WPA3 enterprise as they're effectively the same thing... have you tried setting a WPA3 enterprise SSID and connecting your devices?

It’s the ONLY thing out there that can do what it does. They have all the patents. It’s very very good. Doesn’t work on iOS though. Apple don’t give access to the data they need. With regard to the MBR, it all depends on the roaming algorithm that the devices uses when roaming. I’ve seen some cheaper scanners revert to starting at the lowest end of the MCS table as they don’t need to send large amounts of data rather than working there way backwards from highest throughput to lowest. In that case, 6 Mbps is the best thing to enable as they’ll head there first. MCS Index - this is how Wi-Fi works Most laptops/smartphones will try to keep the highest data rate. Most VoIP phones, scanners, Sensors will just dive straight to 1SS - 6 Mbps as they send small amounts of data.

First thing I would do in a warehouse environment is reduce my min basic rate down to 6 Mbps - there are so many reflections in a warehouse that some 'cheaper' scanners can't handle a higher data rate. I'd also use a WPA2 PSK (as long as you have good physical security and an encrypted connection from the device to the app server). This way the device will roam easier/quicker anyway. I'd enable 802.11k but disable 80211r and v lastly... I'd sell them 7Signal MobileEye which is an agent they can run on the android device to give them all the roaming/wireless data that the device can see from the OS perspective. That'll tell you ext what's going on and what's going wrong. It'll also correlate the driver versions in use and which ones work well and which ones don't. 7Signal

My max Tx on meraki is never normally higher than 14 dBm. I'd also suggest 24 Mbps as your min basic rate if it's an open office environment

Ah… if they’re only capable of connecting to 2.4 GHz then it’s probably something else that’s tripping them up… when you create your separate 2.4 GHz SSID make sure you use the lowest minimum data rates, remove 802.11 k,r,v,w etc. They’ll probably work if you do that. They probably just have very basic drivers and can’t handle anything but the most basic settings.

Um… I’m not sure what vendor is telling you that a client works better on 2.4 GHz rather than 5 GHz but I find that hard to believe… either way, you should always separate your bands into a separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz SSID as it’s the only way to ensure that 5 GHz clients use 5 GHz. Id create a separate SSID that is only broadcast on 2.4 GHz and one that is only broadcast on 5 GHz. 5 GHz should always be better as there should be less utilisation on those channels.

This will be why then… in that mode each new AP will give the client a new IP address. Create a guest VLAN and use that instead. That way they’ll keep the same IP and do a proper roam rather than a dissociation and re-association,
