...and this is no where close to what we need for good real time visibility. I want to see how much bandwidth each client is using in real time. This graph just lumps everything together, making good diagnostics difficult.

I would check Layer 1. Cat 5 cables, and PoE injector. You should be able to ping Unifi AP's. Does your Chrome discovery tool find the AP?

When you have dual wan connections, you aren't able to see upload and download bandwidth separately. To be honest, the fact that we have so little actual "real time" information inside the MX is already embarrassing even with a single WAN. When you add a 2nd WAN, the separate upload/download charts dissapear, and you just have one utilization line chart. $50 home routers do a better job reflecting real time utilization, it is just a shame that Meraki doesn't seem to understand the tools that we need in the field. Please, give this some consideration. It would be great to see something like iftop on linux on the MX, and I'm sure the capability is there already. We NEED better real time visibility. 2 hr window is not fast enough!

Interesting, that would explain the MX as it was running 14.35. It doesn't explain the MS though, but maybe we have to just accept it and move on.

No, it was switch and an MX. Two separate sites. That's out of an install base of maybe 250 devices total - so still relatively infrequent. But we haven't seen the issue in the past 3 years, and then we see it twice in a week.

Has anyone else seen this issue? This is the 2nd time we have seen the problem in a week. We factory rest an MX because of it, but even that didn't fix the problem. Support had to "reset" something on their end to resolve. I can tell you it's a real pain to have to factory reset a 48 port switch in production because of some phantom problem like this. Not feeling particularly endearing.

@ciph3r Predominantly that we were unable to take advantage of our full internet pipe - we have 100mb, and would get 30-60 mbs. IP phones are in use as well, so at times of 100% load, call quality would suffer.

You could create a Group Policy with a Layer7 Firewall rule. Then assign that Group Policy to the device that you are port forwarding to. Would that work?

We had an MX80 in production that wasn't keeping up. We only have a 100x10 uplink connection, but due to the # of clients/connections, we would regularly see the performance graph peak out. Querying the performance "perfScore" with the API would normally show values in the high 60's through 100. With the MX67 being released, I was curious how it would perform in this environment compared to the MX80, so I put one in. Here are comparisons of the performance graph. I'm pretty pleased with this! Both units have all security services enabled. Querying the new MX67's perfScore via the API shows a score between 4-6. MX80: MX80 Here is the MX67: As you can see, there is very dramatic difference. Hopefully that's useful info for anyone trying to figure out how to size an appliance.

Understood. But it isn't a good metric. What matters is how *active* (i.e. connections) those clients are. I'm simply advocating for better visibility into how many connections the MX is servicing, and how many it is rated to service. We have well under 50 clients in the aforementioned network, yet our MX80 can't keep (device utilization hits 100% daily).

@PhilipDAthHow you are you liking the MX67? I wish the "simultaneous connection" limits of these firewalls were posted and you could actually see that detail in the dashboard. I've got a MX80 that needs to be replaced, and I'm trying to figure out if I can get by with a 67 or not. It's a small network, but sits in front of a couple pretty active servers.

I would like to be able to query the MX to retreive packet loss for the past 60 min for an appliance. Somehow, we need to be able to be alerted if an MX is experiencing higher than normal packet loss. There is no built in alerting for this, thus the reason I'm considering the API. However, none of the API endpoints appear to return this data.

I would also upgrade to 14.31 firmware. Then setup a traffic shaping rule and change VOIP traffic to DSCP 46. They changed the functionality of traffic shaping in 14.x fimrware with traffic that has DSCP 46. Also, do Avaya phones use standard compliant SIP - or is it some proprietary protocol? If proprietary, then you need to configure the correct ports in a custom traffic shaping rule. Setup a host under Traffic Shaping -> Uplink Statistics. Set it to the IP of your hosted PBX - this way you can track latency/loss to this host over time. I'm honestly not sure that this is a traffic shaping issue or a jitter issue. Make sure that any SIP ALG is turned off on ISP modems and you aren't double natting.

Check Organization->Summary Report. And look at device utilization over time. We had a similar issue and found that there was a misbehaving app on a server that was literally opening hundreds of thousands of TCP connections to a vendor's licensing server. It caused the MX's utilization to peak out. Basically Ddos'ed ourselves. The way we tracked this down was to sort traffic analytics by the # of flows - and then drill in from there. There was one machine that had exponentially more flows than any other machine. From there it was easy to identify the culprit!
