I considered that but the issue wasn't there with the Cisco branded SFP and looking at load its not anywhere near what should cause any issues. Yes, my first step (after replacing the SFP) was to update to the just released 11.30 code....no change. I would have to verify what fiber is in place, it was here way before I was but this particular run is probably only about 150', not a long distance by an means. The Meraki SFP is this model FTLX1371D3BCL-C1 (MA-SFP-10G-LRM) replacing the Cisco Part SFBR-7600SDZ-CS3

We will be putting the Cisco SFP back in to see if it goes away for sure, just curious why it has now happened on two of the locations almost immediately after swapping SFPs.

I've read a few threads on this but my question/concern is slightly different. We are slowly migrating to Meraki switches since we have essentially all Meraki APs. Two schools that we have done we went ahead and replaced the Cisco 10Gb sfps with Meraki branded ones (since that is the recommendation - even if its the same part essentially) and since doing so I have random ports throwing the High CRC error on the router side of the connections. Occasionally it will go away, then come back. Replaced with another new SFP with no success on both ends. Fiber is the same as before the install. I can only think the new optics were dirty and not properly dusted before install and that is my next step, but anyone else have this issue with Meraki branded SFPs? Before we replaced the SFPs and still had the Cisco branded ones we didn't see any issues, it was more of a "hey we bought this might as well use them' situation.

Just want to bring this up again since I recently ran into the exact same issue. Just tooling around in a particular network and noticed a 'very high CRC error' on a switch port that turned out to be a faulty optic. When I asked the users they indicated they had some intermittent troubles, why they didn't tell anyone is irrelevant but it had been going on for while unbeknownst. to me.

In my experience stacking Meraki switches I've seen it go both ways. Usually they seem to be able to stack while in use and other times I've had issues, I think it depends on the mood of the switch. Regardless, the downtime for a Meraki switch seems to be significantly less than the Catalyst switches we replaced.

Based on eRate funding and funding in general I do feel this new model will be easier to manage from a financial standpoint, not so much from an inventory stand point as its more like Smartnet but I do understand the change. My question, I have currently 6 extra WAP licenses in my dashboard that I don't currently have AP's to use them (for whatever reason). What will become of those licenses?

Having a similar issue on an SSID with WPA2 preshared key on Dell laptops with Intel cards. Seems making my channel width 20Mhz worked previously so going to try again with this particular network. Currently running 25.13.

Also, in addition to the above....I found in a couple of my networks I had that error on my Meraki Core switch another tech had ports configured incorrectly, mismatches, and in fixing that removed my errors.

I have several MS425's in production and not experienced anything like that. I have; however, experienced where one particular one seems to go offline briefly and randomly after we had big power outage on that side of town. I had thought it to be a power issue with the switch, or potentially a power supply...but after verifying I have good power and swapping power supplies I have wondered if it were something to do with a Cisco switch in this network and PVST (see other thread about all this). Never did I have to do a hard reboot though, so doesn't sound like this is your issue.

This is something I have recently discovered, I have a large network location and (unknowingly) realized I have a lone old Cisco switch potentially causing issues. Reading all this I assume i need to change it to MST pretty quickly. It has been running for a few months now but only recently has it come to my attention.

Sorry I forgot to update this. i guess I found the issue, at least for us. I only have MR42’s so could not test with other models; however, I tried multiple boards, aps, rooms, schools, etc to no avail. same symptoms as you describe with the particular model board. The only thing I found to make it work was to set my channel with to 20Mhz for that SSID and I Haven’t seen it return—-I’m surprised you say it returns for you after that change. we just started getting in new boards with a google device powering it and no issues at all. Ironically the new boards have a built in android hardware and the issue is on that hardware, but not the attached google hardware

I did a search and didn't find the exact problem (although all were caused by the same issue). The Meraki switches are beautiful, what with those fancy built in ears that are no adjustable. Many of our data closets are old random rooms being most of our schools are not new construction and that is causing concern when we migrate to Meraki hardware. The Cisco switch can adjust to stick out more in a tight space, many of which can not be changed without replacing the entire rack. Is there anything on market to help with the depth of a Meraki switch? A spacer of some kind? For now I've been putting rack shelves in to support the switch, or in one case I simply used Meraki AP boxes to separate the switches being installed. Its tacky, I dont like it....................

I did and am still migrating from a Cisco on Prem solution (8510 controllers) to full Meraki. We started with AP's and now have begun our switch upgrades, I still have a couple of schools on the Cisco controllers until I get to them. As was said, just replacing the APs is fairly easy and once they all replaced you can turn down the controllers.

For me the Meraki DHCP is great, easy to use, and pretty fail safe from my experience. However, no P2P means some Apple functions (and others I'm sure) will not work.

I have the same situation (although on a much smaller geographical scale). 40 separate buildings with people sometimes traversing between them. One organization, 40 'networks' beneath them, an SSID configured identically between all 40 buildings to allow those folks to roam.

As was said, and also how much do you really want to support. I have roughly 900 seat auditorium (2 stories) that I have to support in the school system I work for but its not a priority room, meaning if we can reasonably support guests then its fine. If 900 people crowd the room and they all have at least one device and they want to stream a 4k video, well we just simple don't feel it necessary to support that. I have 5 access points in there, 3 serving the bottom floor and 2 serving the top floor. No, it would not support everyone all the time but it adequately handles what is mostly in there.........which is an occasional event with a percentage of people on their phones playing on facebook on my guest account. We did have a teacher event one time where we had a large crowd full of tech savvy teachers showing off their new tech toys (and I have pic to show this) and they complained about some 'slowness', but they all managed to do what they needed.

I don't have numbers but keep in mind you'll need smart net to cover those controllers in case of issues whereas with the Meraki subscription that is not needed.
