Why don't Meraki do bridges - Is there any plan to do them?

Hi All

We use Meraki all over the company, however when we have a required for bridging, we have to install ubiquiti or something else which isn't ideal.

Is there any plan for Meraki to do this? if not why not? Lots of customers want this feature from what I hear.

Thanks

Carl

It's called mesh.

A Meraki AP works in mesh mode, when it gets no IP address. This it can work as bridge. Since there is no dedicated radio for meshing, the mash mode is very basic. But if you want to serve wired clients only, this is your desired mode.

Meshing can be activated and deactivated network-wide. The APs will transmit a hidden SSID for meshing.

I'm guessing the OP is bridging over much larger distances than where meshing makes sense.    We often need to connect buildings 1/2 mile apart or more  and when fiber is not an option we use Ubiquiti devices.    I would love to use a Meraki managed point to point bridge if I could.

I am waiting for this feature too, urgently. I have a network in a funfair park and the sales stands are moving around and I need more VLANs (cashdesk VLAN, IP-telefone-VLAN, ...) to be bridged to the sales stands. the cashdesk and creditcard-readers and the ip-Phones need to be connected by cable. So I am looking for to connect a switch in the sales-stand with the devices and this network with an MR accesspoint to the uplink network by WLAN bridge. I do this now with very very old Cisco AIR AP 1242, they do multi VLAN bridgeing very good. But they are very outdated and I wait for a Meraki replacement which can do this.

But MR already does mesh, I don't understand what the problem is here?

Meraki says this is not possible:

I don't know what your goal is, but here's a good document you can read.

Thank You, I will try this in a test installation.

Multi-VLAN is supported with MR 18.1 and higher. It is a closed Beta, you have to open a support ticket to activate it. So your test installation needs to be a separate organization, because those features are activated per org and not per network.

Shouldn't need a L3 switch on the remote side to support multi-VLAN, we've been using L2 switches off the MAP with Cisco PtP bridges for 10 years now
