Warm Spare between 2 DC Stacked Switches

I am planning to deploying 4 MS410-16, two stacked switches in each datacenters (A & B) and must have a VRRP between them. Will warm spare functionality work between DC A stacked switches and DC B stacked switches ?? If not then what is alternate solution to make redundant between 2 DC stacked switches.

Kind of a big deal

This won´t work, You can only use it with non stacked switches.

is this answer still valid and that kind of setup is also not working with MS425?

@MarcP is correct.  If you wanted layer 3 VRRP to extend across the DC's then you could either:

  • Use your current design, but add in an extra MS410 into each DC (non-stacked).  Warm spare/VRRP them, and use those for layer 3 processing.  This way you keep the switch stacks in each DC to dual connect everything and also gain layer 3 redundancy.
  • Use a single MS410 at each DC, non-stacked and VRRP across them.
  • If you can get a pair of layer 2 10Gbe links between your DC's then upgrade your MS410's to MS425's and use Flexible stacking.  This would allow you to create a single stack of four switches, with two switches in each DC

You might find this guide on configuring flexible stacking interesting to read as well.

Double bonus - if you could get dark fibre you could potentially use the MS425 40Gbe ports between the DCs.
