Hi all,
I'm in need of some help connecting a WD MyBookLive to my network. I've connected it to my MS120-8LP switch, but it's not showing up in the client list. The LED on the WD MyBookLive is just blinking green.
According to their site, that means it's performing read or write commands to or from the hard disk drive, but it's been like that for days. I've pressed the reset button on the back, and still same result.
Help, please.
Hi @Shadius, please try run a packet capture on the port connected to the external HD. Can you see the device requesting an IP address from your DHCP server?
is this a new device? Did you previously have it on a static IP? Can you connect directly to the device from a laptop if you connect both via Ethernet cable?
I previously had it working on a static IP address.
All of a sudden, it's not there anymore and I can't map it.
I ran the packet capture and I'm not seeing any DHCP requests.
Do you mean connect the WD MyBookLive to my laptop using the Ethernet cable?
Yes, I had one of these devices many moons ago. Always causing me trouble. Maybe if you’ve reset it it’s gone back to factory default?
try connecting locally and see what happens. I remember there being some software that you had to install on your own machine that would help you set the WD up?
Yeah, I tried to get the software from WD using their Quick Install Guide, but their link is dead.

I was hoping that it went back to factory default and tried to get an address using DHCP, but it would've showed up in Clients. There's nothing popping up. When I first connected it, it showed up immediately.
The LED is still just blinking like every 5 seconds.
I think that software was the key to getting it all setup.
Can you source via further searching on the internet? Might be lurking somewhere.
I've installed the software although it doesn't say it if it'll work on Windows 10, but it still doesn't find the My Book Live.

@Shadius Your problem sounds more like an issue with the WD cloud than being a Meraki issue. Perhaps try the WD forums to see if they can offer assistance. Simply changing network hardware shouldn't cause the issue you are seeing.
