Meraki Switch management IP

Hi,

I am new to Meraki & one of our client has Meraki MX, MS & MR in their network.

In a meeting there was a query on best practices for the Management IP of the Switches.

At some locations the switch management IP is set to DHCP while others are set to Static.

I'd like to know what is recommended.

Thanks,

I don't think there is a hard Best Practice, It has to match your needs.

I am a friend of DHCP with reservations for my devices. This speeds up the onboarding if they are moved to different locations. But on some situations I set them statically. For example if I need to send traffic from the device to a RADIUS server for 802.1X.

Hi,

Thank you for the clarification. So, once the devices is assigned a Mgmt IP via DHCP it is best to reserve it so that the IP doesn't change?

Thanks

Certainly not always best. But works for me very well most of the times.

Thank you for all your help. Appreciate it.
