Meraki MS225-48FP - Firmware MS 16.9

Has anyone got advice on the following?

We have a stack of switches with various devices connected.

The main issue seen today that I am trying to dig into and find out what is causing the issue or why it seems so strange.

Device type - Meraki MS225-48FP

Firmware - MS 16.9

The device was connected to a port and working and transmitting data on the port absolutely fine until recently unsure of when it exactly stopped working as it's plugged into a meeting room camera.

Physical checks carried out: -

Cable has been confirmed as working fine with a cable tester no issues found. Cable when connected to a laptop picks up an IP when using any other port on the same VLAN.

Meraki portal checks: -

When running cable test on the port reports fine.

PoE being provided fine.

Sending data is being recorded but nothing back in the statics.

Client showing 0.

Event logs just short the port

Port status change port: 6, old: 1Gfdx, new: down

Port status change port: 6, old: down, new: 1Gfdx

Nothing else.

Moving cable from the port it was working in to a port on the same switch it hasn't been plugged into before same results above.

Moving the same cable into a port that is configured the same and has a device that is working brings the device to life and it gets an IP and network starts to flow.

Moving it back to any other port on the switch that hasn't had anything plugged in but is configured on the same VLAN nothing picks up.

Moving the same cable to the same type of switch on the same firmware to a switch below where it's never been plugged into before the switch picks up and works doesn't matter which port I use on the switch.

Example of moving: -

Meraki Switch Switch Port
Switch 1 # PORT 11 < Different device but same make & model but working
Switch 1 # PORT 7 < Offending Port
Switch 1 # PORT 2 < Moved to not working
Switch 1 # PORT 11 < Moved to working

Meraki Switch Switch Port
Switch 2 # PORT 9 < Works straight away
Switch 2 # PORT 23 < Works straight away
Switch 2 # PORT 15 < Works straight away
Switch 2 # PORT 38 < Works straight away

Thanks.

Kind of a big deal

I'm having trouble following what you've done as far as the troubleshooting goes. My ultimate test for isolating switch vs cabling vs device is the below provided there have been no config changes. You can do other things in this process like running a cable test, disable any 802.1x or similar policies, etc. This is not 100% foolproof, but it usually works.

1) Does a basic laptop work connected to the same drop your device is in with similar or the same network settings, if so, it's the device, if not go to step 2

2) Does the device, if it can be moved, or a laptop or similar  with appropriate network settings, work when plugged directly into the switch and port in question in your network closet work, if so, you have some sort of cabling issues, patches, the drop etc., if not go to step 3

3) You have a switch issue, could be config, could be hardware, a factory reset of the switch could help, or you can check with support at this point. If it's hardware you will have to contact support.
