Hi everyone,

Just want to ask if there is a way to manually assign switch number in a stacking Meraki Switches (say 3 switches)?

When I tried it before, there is no settings like this.

No, there's no way to re-order the switches in the stack without breaking and rebuilding the stack.

From memory, the order in the dashboard matches the order in which the switches are added to the stack.

Hello Mike,

Re-configuring each switches' name in the dashboard UI will change the order in which they display under Switching > Monitor > Switch Stacks > select target stack > Overview, regardless of the physical setup.

The switches in the stack will display in ascending order by name on this page (or by mac address if names have not yet been configured).

If you manually rename the 3 stack members 1,2, 3  or  A, B, C for example, they will show in the dashboard in ascending order like in the examples below:

This would require you to edit the name in the dashboard UI under each switch, as there is no option currently to edit each member's name while provisioning the stack.

Thank you for the explanation.

I kind of get it now.

I re-checked Meraki Dashboard and switch number seems irrelevant since you are still going to each switch to configure certain settings. Though you are correct, we can use hostname to re-arrange the position of switches in the dashboard for easier identification in the physical rack.
