We are rolling out Meraki MS250 switches. Our general configuration is Firewall --> Switch (L3) -> Switch (Distribution).
We did not see any advantage to using the physical stacking cables, as we had no need for inter switch bandwidth greater than 1GB.
However, taking a look at the L3 capabilities, I am wondering if there are other benefits to Physical Stacking. Is the processing load of L3 activities distributed between the devices? If the main switch goes down (Power, device failure, etc), does the second switch continue to operate as normal for the devices connected to it? Can we aggregate ports between the two switches so that we can have high availability/failover?
Everything I read about the Physical stacking only talks about the 40GB backbone as the reason to do it. What else do you gain?
