Two MX68CW-WW , one Internet line and one LTE connection. How to connect and how to cable?

Hey together,

I am an Meraki MS and MR user since years.

Now I am new in MX.

I bought two MX68CW-WW and do have an Internet-line and an LTE connction.

How is the best doing?

Internet-line to one MX and LTE to the second MX?

Is that working with warm-spare mode?

Or do I need high-availability mode for that?

Is there another license neccessary?

And while configuration there is a question I don´t understand:

I am asked for

Use MX uplinks IPs  or

Use virtual uplinks IPs

That is not IP=IP-Address, maybe IP=InternetProvider?

Is there a best practise for this configuration?

Just create a warm spare pair as described on https://documentation.meraki.com/MX/Deployment_Guides/MX_Warm_Spare_-_High_Availability_Pair

You only need one license for the MX pair as the warm spare will only be passive.

I would suggest using a small switch and connect both MX WAN1 to your WAN provider. Then, use your first MX to connect to the cellular network. Failover behavior is described here: https://documentation.meraki.com/MX/Deployment_Guides/MX_Warm_Spare_-_High_Availability_Pair#Cellula... (in a nutshell: if WAN1 on MX1 fails, it will fail over to WAN1 on MX2. If that also fails, it will automatically fail over to your cellular connection).

As for the uplink IPs: you can choose to have a „cluster IP“ that can be used to make routing to your internal networks easier. The downside is that you‘ll need a third IP address on the transfer network to your ISP which is perhaps not possible in your setup.

The other option is using two separate IPs for both MXs and leave out the „Virtual IP“ completely. You would have to adjust the routing from your ISPs Routern to your internal network manually when MX1 goes down for whatever reason though.

Hi @redsector , the design you're looking at is HA - Warm spare.  You only require a single MX licence for HA.  Give the below a read:

Except only run a single Ethernet from each MX to the switching block below it.  Don't dual connect them or run an Ethernet cable between them.

I wonder how to connect, when the WAN-ports don´t offer PoE. And I can´t connect Provider 1 to both MXes (except I do an VLAN on the switches to do this)
