SIP-ALG on Meraki MX95

Hi everyone,

We're using Dialpad VOIP and running into a bunch of latency when making calls. We've ran some network tests of theirs and they confirmed that we have SIP-ALG disabled. I'm not finding any information on this in any documentation. Can someone provide some guidance on how I can disable this? Thank you!

Hmmm…what issues are you having exactly?  Are you getting one-way or no audio or are calls choppy/garbled?

Telephony either works or it doesn’t!  Providers are always too keen to jump at the SIP-ALG is enabled bandwagon.

Thanks for the response. Calls occasionally drop or suddenly the connection isn't great and gets garbled.

You have an MX95 so assume you have a pretty decent internet connection? Are the issues happening during peak usage?  What does the latency/loss graphs show on your WAN connection during these events?

Not necessarily during peak usage. It's been pretty random. The loss graph shows anywhere between .5 to 1% loss during the events.

SIP ALG is not configurable with Meraki and doesn't exist. That's important to know. Otherwise what @DarrenOC is the right path to go down.

In some cases you may need some port forwarding for your PBX. You can also try setting up traffic shaping rules to prioritize VOIP traffic.

I am not a Cisco Meraki employee. My suggestions are based on documentation of Meraki best practices and day-to-day experience.

Temporarily, disable IPS, AMP and content filtering.

Does the issue go away?
