Replace Failed Primary MX in HA

Hi,

Can someone guide me on how to replace a failed MX450 in HA?

The scenario is we have 2 MX450 in HA. Recently, the primary had an issue and the secondary (warm spare) takes over.

I'm just worried that if we try to replace the primary, the configuration may be gone during the process.

Hope someone can have a step by step guide on how to properly replace the failed primary MX.

All configuration is located on the Dashboard.

If you replace a MX450 on the Meraki Dashboard with another MX450, the new device will have the configuration pushed by the Meraki Dashboard, so it will end up running the same configuration as the old device.

If you switch over to the spare, power down the old primary and replace it with the new primary, as well as replace it on the Meraki Dashboard, I would expect it to come online again and begin synchronizing its configuration and upgrade to the current running firmware.

Once that's done, I'd expect you to simply just beable to fall back to the primary again, unless it does so premptively.

Thank you for the response.

Once the primary is powered down, I need to disable the HA settings, right?

In this case, the configuration is intact in the secondary.

Then, I need to re-enable HA and choose the new MX as warm spare and wait for it to sync.

Is that correct?

Once you set the good mx as primary, and the bad/down mx as spare.

There is a pencil icon behind the spare. You can  change the serial of the spare if you click it
